It has been a while since there has been a new Fashion Friday on Sparkles and Shoes – I know this. Recently I have not been in a mindset to shoot but I am hoping over Christmas break I will get inspired to photograph and few outfits and it will be helpful that Mark will be around. Until then I want to share two dozens festive looks from past holiday seasons. I had thought I would only have a few outfits to choose from but by the time I am publishing this post I have 24 looks total. It was hard to pick and catagorize but I ended up with six, sequins, black and red, satin, plaid and flannel, all black, and velvet.
(1) Sequins
Sequins are not only for New Years and arguably one of the most festive materials (do we call sequins a material? a pattern?) You can find the original shots in the following posts: Sustainable Fashion in a Black Sequin Dress, The Holidays with my Family, my 2018 NYE look in Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Florida, and Black Sequins for Date Night.
(2) Red and Black
Red and black is a great combination only for the holidays but for any time during the colder months. These hues work for every occasion from perfect for a night on the town or a casual brunch at home. You can find the original shots in the following posts: Festive Fit and Flare, Red Leather Jacket, a Red Dress in London, and Patterns and Pearls.
(3) Satin
Satin is such a fun way to go. I tend to avoid satin for the most part as it shows sweat but occasionally it really is the perfect fabric to wow. You can find the original shots of these festive looks in the following posts: A Festive Green Slip Dress, Red Hot in a Red Ruched Dress, as well as my post on my Favorite Holiday Dress and Black and Red for Broadway.
(4) All Black
I’ve lived in London for almost six years but I will always be a New Yorker. You can not go wrong with all black as an outfit at any time but it is a great default for the holidays, especially if you want to spend money on gifts, not clothes. You can find the original shots in the following posts: Bundled Up in Black and Grey, All Black for Girls Night Out, Feeling Festive at Borough Market, and from one of my favorite Paris shoots Head to Toe Black at the Les Deux Plateaux.
It was hard to choose only four shots here so if you need more outfit inspo you can find bonus looks in these posts – All Black in Spring (Would be great with tights), All Black for the Win, My Favorite Black Dress for the Holidays, and Fashion Blogger in All Black in London.
(5) Flannel & Plaid
Similar to black and red, this is a great fabric and print for Winter plus it works just as well in January and February as it does in December. You can find the original shots in the following posts: Having a Moment in Tartan, A Subtle Tartan Wool Skirt, Flannel Check and a Pearl Fedora, and Black Watch with a Bow. In putting this post together I particularly like the green options.
(6) Velvet
Last but not last, velvet. It is such a great fabric and it features so many great pieces – two outfits in your classic red and green and then two fun twists, a velvet and a navy. Three of the four photos in New York – velvet and UK weather (rain, ugh!) do not mix. You can find the original shots in the following posts: Green Velvet, There’s No Place Quite Like New York , Velvet Blazers Aren’t Just for the Boys, and the 24th look of this post Date Night in a Blue Velvet Romper.
There you have it, two dozen festive looks for any occasion!

Fashion Friday post. Yeeeee. All terrific looks. My favorite is the silver sequins dress with those high heels sandals. It’s just warm enough this year for me so I will go with a pink dress with the matching killer pink high heels sandals to ring in the new year at a local catering hall. Happy New Year to you Mark and Lily

What a nice treat to feature some non party holiday looks… that plaid green tartan skirt is so cute and I also like the two red plaid ensambles.
I remember that shoot on the stairs with those black high boots and the killer hat. Way to go.
Merry Christmas.
