The title really says it all – velvet blazers aren’t really just for the boys! After last week’s merlot colored dress I must have something for the wine hues because this deep claret blazer – a color even named after red table wine produced in the Bordeaux region of France – hits all the right notes for me with it’s deep purplish red color.
At least half a dozen wore nice velvet blazers to my 4,000 person holiday party and while I opted for this black off the shoulder dress this blazer would have fit right in. I decided to pair it with all black for this look to really let it stand out but couldn’t resist throwing in a different pattern and these faux leather leggings added just that extra pop I was looking for!

I did not end up wearing this look to any of my holiday parties in New York City though I really should because as of last night I am safely in Florida for the rest of the year and while I have a few more holiday parties this look doesn’t quite work for 80 degree weather!
