For almost a decade I have hit publish on an early January post welcoming the New Year but the themes have really run the gambit. Some years I have shared many resolutions, some years only one, some years my NYE outfit, and last year I posted live from Egypt. Well clearly as we start 2021 I am not in some exotic location exploring new parts of the world but thankfully I am together with my family for the first time in a year.
Following the theme of one New Year’s Resolution this year it is to not sweat the small stuff. My dad had a book of the same title when I was growing up called Richard Carlson Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff . . . and It’s All Small Stuff By Richard Carlson. You may have heard of it because by now it has sold 15 million copies and to be honest, I never actually read the whole thing. That said, the title tells you everything you really need to know – don’t sweat the small stuff is going to be my mantra as I go into 2021. It is is a good idea every year but between planning a wedding and the uncertainly of COVID it is more necessary than ever.
Now to be fair this is not an entirely new New Years Resolutions as it is certainly a take on one of my 2016 resolutions to stop complaining about things I have no control over. And even though I am five years older and five years wiser (maybe) I am still going to find this a hard one. . There are tons of things I gripe about on a regular basis and while some are valid and I can work to fix, others I can not impact. For example – working from home. While some people really enjoy it I am not a fan at all. however, it has been nine months and seeing as my company is not going back into the office until September 2021 at the earliest it’s not something I can change so I will try and find positives one is that my old commute time can now be used to exercise – I just need to keep reminding myself of this silver lining.
So 2021, let’s do this. And I am going to try and not sweat the small stuff.

As you can tell by my late entry one of my New Years Resolutions is to get through my emails and favorite blog posts by the end of day. Still catching up but doing a bit better.
