The title of this post may ring a vague bell if you have watched the latest season of Emily in Paris. In the fourth episode of the amazing Netflix show there is a scene where Emily learn’s the French expression “reculer pour mieux sauter” which translates to Take a step back so you can take a big jump forward or step back to jump better.
It may seem a bit odd but this is my 2023 New Year’s Resolution – I am going to step back to jump better. I am not the same person I was 12 months ago I am going to make a conscious effort to not try to be her. There was nothing wrong with that Kelly but life has happened and things that have forever changed me as a person. Going backwards is not going to be the best way for me to grieve and more forward so I am going to take a step back and truly evaluate my life so that I can enter the next chapter with my best foot forward.
And to be honest, I am not sure what that looks like but I do know it involves giving myself grace. It involves not putting too much pressure on myself to do things that aren’t servicing me, helping me, or making me a better Kelly. I am going to focus on being a good wife, sister, daughter, friend, and coworker and also making sure I don’t try and do too much – I am going to pull back so that I can jump forward, hopefully some time soon. In the meantime, thank you for sticking around while I spending a lot of time coloring as right now it is more relaxing than 5x blog posts a week and obsessively posting on Instagram. This is a new year and I choose me.

What a great perspective.
I have found that I am trying to less of the I should do this or that and reevaluate do I really need to do that. Will it bring me joy or can I save it for later or am I just making more work for myself when I could cut a corner or two and will that really matter.
I think so many of us are always trying so hard and then we realize that we are the most important people to please not every on else.
