Friday Five: Shoes & Springtime

This is my first ever Five Friday’s and let me say, first off, Happy Friday!  To celebrate my favorite day of the week I usually feature a pair of shoes from my extensive collection and overflowing closet, all of which you can find on new and revamped Shoes page.  I will start of with a pair of shoes for my favorite things right now, and take a scroll down to see the other things that have made me happy this week!

I am obsessed with these Charles Jourdan shoes I purchased yesterday.  I have to say, DSW you are a great store.  After exercising I stopped by the massive Union Square location and trying on heels with my gym clothes made for an interesting site.  These shoes by renowned French designer were originally marked at $170, then brought down to $99.98 and today were marked in the brilliant purple indicating half off.  Of course, then when I added the ten-dollar-off coupon the store had sent me in the mail I purchased these amazing nude peep-toe heels for under $40. I consider that WINNING!  I do have to say, I was a bit worried about people perceiving these as knock-off Louboutins but I think I am in the clear because it is not the whole sole, just the instep. 

The weather is finally nice and I could jump for joy. These four photos were taken, and of course shared on my Instagram account, yesterday over the course on the four-mile journey I took from my apartment down to the tip of Manhattan along the East River.  Exercising on the water is such an amazing bonus to living in the best city in the world.  And while I was not staring at the river there was very attractive eye candy running, biking, or walking dogs.

Last summer when I moved to New York City I wanted a bike but in my small but quaint apartment it will not fit and the storage in building was flooded in Hurricane Sandy. I never thought about rollerblades until a month ago when I saw an adorable couple holding hands gliding down the East River running path. I decided I wanted to look like them.  I did quite a bit of research and realized that in Manhattan Paragon Sports is king.  
I actually feel bad for the sales associate who helped me.  I told him I wanted roller blades and then was confused why he showed me sakes with four blades set up in rectangular pattern.  Guess I wanted inline skates, whoops! Oh, and once I landed on my bum in the 30 feet of store they have for you to practice he highly suggested I get the XT three pack of protective gear allowing maximum range of motion and comfort.  And in the three times I have been rollerblading since purchasing them the anatomically shaped wrist, knee and elbow pads may make me look like a nerd but have already saved me from breaking my wrist.  I will get better with time but it is so much fun! 

This show is absolutely amazing!  Kerry Washington is gorgeous and is such a kiss-butt lead role in the second season Scandal, which I told you in January was on my Spring TV watch list.   Every week the 10pm Thursday slot on my TiVo is taken by ABC’s drama hit series and I am in love with it.   Every week Olivia Pope and Fitzgerald F. Grant make me really happy.  No, I am not a lawyer, no I do not live in D.C., and no, I do not have a tragic past but I want to be a Gladiator so badly.  If you are watching this show, you know what I mean.  If you are not – do not start now.  Watch from the beginning and thank me later.

One of my New Years Resolutions was to try every class that my gym offered and this has been proving a challenging and interesting goal.  This goal inspired me to take a class called “Jukari Fit to Fly”, which is a Cirque Du Soleil fitness class.  Even though it is new to me, the class has been around since 2008 when Reebok teamed up with the masters of circus arts and street entertainment. The hour-long fitness class is hard to describe, but it is a truly different group exercise experience and I absolutely love it.  I actually get excited to go to class every week and tomorrow when I head to class I will definitely have a smile on my face.

    I just had a Scandal marathon. I watched season one and the first two episodes of season two. I get it now. Love!

    I thought they were roller blades too! Who knew? I thought about getting a pair but then I thought about falling. So now I want a bike. I know I could totally still fall and eat it but somehow biking feels “safer” in my mind.

    I am OBSESSED with Scandal. Like, embarrassingly obsessed. I knocked out season one in one weekend, and I’m almost caught up with season two on iTunes. Those two crazy kids just need to be together–it’s KILLING ME!

    That class looks Amazing! I wish we had something like that here. And I LOVE Scandal. Ugh last night’s episode was fantastic!
