Not only is Instagram my favorite social media platform personally, I also use it to discover new talent whether that be incredible tattoo artists or the latest top models. Over the past year I have come across I follow a handful of male makeup artists who not only make the women around them prettier, they often use the products on themselves. And while I would love to use the word discover these five crazy talented men have over 5.3 million Instagram fans between them.
Last fall when I went to BeautyCon NYC I had the pleasure of meeting Angel Merino on of the biggest players in the “men in makeup” game right now. I had the chance to connect with him in the press room right after he finished an interview with MTV for their new beauty segment. He was incredible sweet, his skin was perfect, and this photo sets the perfect stage for this post:
Angel Merino – @mac_daddyy – When he is not super busy with his A-list clients like Chanel Iman this LosLos Angeles based celebrity makeup slays with bronzer and false lashes for days.
Wayne Alan Goss – @gossmakeupartist – Wayne was the first male makeup artist I discovered when years ago I was looking for video on the best way to do a smokey eye with the Naked palette and his YouTube video came up – his British accent is to die for!
James Charles – @jcharlesbeauty – One of the latest additions is the rediculously talented 16 year old makeup artist whose looks are a combination of lust worthy and true pieces of art. And since he is based in New York can he come do my makeup? Pretty please?
Manny Gutierrez – @mannymua733 – His bio states that he think boys deserve just as much cosmetic recognition and he is certainly getting it – just last week he was the first boy in makeup ever featured on the Maybelline Instagram account. #danggurl
And perhaps the most famous male makeup artist?
Jeffree Star – @jeffreestar – He may have started with a music career on MySpace but this L.A. based artist found a real calling in the makeup world, especially since the launch of his highly coveted Jeffree Star Cosmetics and the Velour Liquid Lipstick.
What do you think of men in makeup?

I love Wayne Goss and have been following him for years. I love to see these men in makeup, although I don’t think it works for every man. I don’t know why more men don’t wear makeup. I like the look. I love when a man has enough confidence and self esteem to wear makeup proudly and feel good in it! No shame for being yourself and being different. Hollywood actors do it and some musicians, why not mainstream?
