September 20th, our anniversary. Today Mark and I have officially been married for three years. This date confuses everyone, even my parents, but let me explain. Mark and I have been “married” three times. In 2020 we were legally married in the UK at a town hall, in 2021 we had our wedding in Florida and were legally married in the US, and in 2022 had a wedding celebration in Derbyshire, England. Many might think we would use October 30th, 2021 as our anniversary however, due to logicistcal reasons, we’ve decided otherwise. For paperwork, visas, insurance, and more the date is September 20th and since that’s the date multiple governments asks about, that’s the date we will use. Take a look:
___________
September 20th, 2020 – Our UK marriage, signing the legal paperwork
October 30th, 2021 – Our wedding in Florida
October 30th, 2021 – At the same time our US marriage, complete with legal paperwork
January 22nd, 2022 – Our UK wedding celebration in Derbyshire
To make it a bit more than a random Wednesday Mark and I have a babysitter booked tonight and a reservation at one of our favorite local restaurants. I’m hoping Lily behaves and we can enjoy a wonderful meal before coming home and putting her to bed. Of course with a baby the best laid plans often go up in smoke but we shall see!
While I love celebrating and LOVE presents since my birthday is next week and Mark’s is the week after we have agreed; no presents. I’ve said let’s just do nice cards and I’m pretty obsessed with the one I picked out a few days ago: it reads There Is Nobody Else I’d Rather Lie In Bed And Look At My Phone Next To.
However I am also known to not follow the rules so I also got him a little token present. The traditional three year wedding gift is leather and before our October 2021 wedding I got him a leather key chain with the date on it, 31.10.21 in the British format. Since we are not longer using this date I have ordered him a new one, but not with September 20th, but rather with Lily’s birthday because it is indisputable. 🙂 I am going to give him the card tonight at dinner and inside will be a print out of the keychain because it has yet to arrive. This is what it will look like, with Lily’s birthday:
Mark, I love you to the moon and back. I’m oh so happy to be your wife and look forward to the next 30 years and then 30 more after that.
Happy Anniversary!

Wow, I forgot how stunning you looked in your wedding dress and those shoes…
I also really like you in the burgundy dress, you should wear that color more often as you look fantastic in that color too.
Kuddos on your anniversary.
