Wedding Wednesday: Hair and Makeup

Welcome to the fourth addition of Wedding Wednesday!  Putting together these posts is such a fun walk down memory lane but makes me realize I still need to put together our formal album, eek!  But putting that aside, let’s talk about my wedding hair and makeup.  My wedding had so many dates that on initial glance it is crazy to think that I wrote a post called Inspiration for My Wedding Hair and Makeup in October 2022 but when I remember my hair and makeup trial was only 6 weeks later, it makes sense.

Many parts of my big day were not what I imagined for decades there was no ballgown, no historic church, and no long cascade of curls, but it was an amazing day. My hair was not curled for two reasons – first, over the years after being in a number of weddings I have found my hair does not hold a curl well. I’ve told many hair dressers this and they all say, oh, okay, I can make it stay. And then despite countless curls with a small barrel iron and pounds of hairspray it might stay for at least two hours but after five hours or less it hangs limp with a slight wave.

Knowing this happens and wanting my photos to be perfect I changed the plan for my hair, especially when we decided to get married outside on the golf course with abundant wind.  No one likes looking disheveled due to strong breezes and that sounded like a nightmare on my wedding day. Thus I decided on an updo that would allow for me to put in and take out my veil and a glam, but not overdone makeup.  After researching the best makeup artists in South West Florida I chose Charlotte Phinney and was so pleased with the outcome.  My hair and makeup trial went well – the only change I wanted was a more pink blush rather than a dusty orange one.  Here is what the trial looked like:

When the big day came around it was not only me in the makeup chair but also my four bridesmaids and my mom. We all arrived with clean, dry hair and a clean moisturized face and in custom, collar free bathrobes as (collars mess the back of your hair). The only thing I needed was my own lipstick  for touch ups after your makeup artist left for the day. Thus was  Harder than I would have thought and when I was in Charleston for my bachelorette I picked up a few shades from Sephora and ended up going with a pink shade from the Sephora Collection.
