Last week on the flight from London to St. Lucia I watched Miss Congeniality and laughed at the scene where everyone but Sandra Bullocks character says the one most important thing they wish for the world is “world peace”? And while funny, this is not too far off from my birthday wish this year. In case you are new to S&S it is that time, the end of August which means it is almost my birthday month! Last year I got some truly great presents, including this All Saints Leather jacket, and earlier this year one of the best of all, a gorgeous engagement ring, which is both physically stunning and thoughtful for what it represents. As my birthday is one month from today I was planning on putting together a wish list but for the first time, I had trouble doing so. What I really want is COVID to settle down so I can visit with friends and family – so a vaccine, that would be great!
There are things that catch my eye, of course, but there is nothing I have to have. Especially considering I have a big birthday coming up for the last few years I have always talked about buying myself a big gift or doing a girls trip to Paris but I have decided against both. The latter is likely more understandable giving COVID and that France cases are now spiking (and the country is off the UK’s acceptable travel corridor list). The first, is a bit harder to explain, but I will try.
I have had two large ticket items on my wish list for at least the last five years and instead of picking between one of these pricey items to purchase for myself I have decided to use the money for smaller things that add up to nearly the same amount. I am focusing on getting my knee better (doctors, physical therapy, and treatments), expat/visa things, and doing a version of Invisalign so I can have perfectly straight teeth for my wedding day.
And so what do I really want for my birthday this year? Nothing. I don’t need any clothing, shoes, jewellery, candles, and if you have been to our flat – you will know we have an abundance of wine and champagne. Though I know some of you will ask what the two items are – Chanel Classic Handbag in Lambskin & Gold-Tone Metal in Black and the Cartier Yellow Gold Love Bracelet . In 2015 I wrote this post The Iconic Cartier Love Bracelet solely about the bracelet and in 2017 I shared my full luxury wish list and these two items were at the top of the list. Rationally I understand the price of both are through the roof but they are pretty and I think everything should have something aspirational – take a look at them both being worn together by the Fashion Fuse.
So for my birthday this year, I would like COVID to calm down (or a global solution) and I would like the pain in my knee to go away – not something anyone can buy me but that is what I would like. 🙂

I like your birthday wishes and hope you get them both to come true both for yourself and your knee, but also for the world to be safe and healthy at least as far as COVID goes. I also hope you get some wonderful intangible gifts of love and laughter!

This virus has changed everyone’s perspective about what is really important combined with the race issues that the US is facing right now a lot of peoples worlds are really upside down.

Boyfriends birthday is this Saturday. He wanted to throw a big party and have everyone show up which I had to beg him not to do because of Covid-19. He is thinking that this covid is over but that is not the case. His birthday party is going to be with me, our daughter puddy cat and our stuff bears. Sorry that you are going through knee issues. Hopefully that goes away without surgery. Perfect birthday would be a return to the normal world.
