Last night gold statues went home with elated members of the motion pictures but I want to talk about wha they arrived in, not what they took home. (And no, I am not planning on talking about that Chris Rock / Will Smith moment, I think the news has that more than covered). Like previous years here is my red carpet recap of the 2022 Oscars Best Dressed, formally known as the 94th Academy Awards.
The Vogue coverage of the event mentioned an interesting tidbit in the intro that not only are stars supposed to look glamorous but they are now tasked with being “politically aware” and “environmentally conscious” among other things and while true, I am going to stick the surface in this recap. though i do appreciate all of the stars who wore blue ribbons expressing support for Ukraine – from Luisa Ranieri’s pinned on her Versace gown to Jamie Lee Curtis who wore a ribbon around her ring finger.
This year I was slightly underwhelmed – it felt like people were trying to play it safe and for some that meant going casual like Zendaya in her crop top or Kristen Stewart in shorts – for me the Oscars is all about the gowns. To make it fun and not play favorites, here are my top picks for 2022 Oscars Best Dressed in rainbow order

A few lovely ladies were on the fence for me and I toyed back and forth on whether I should include them – I decided to leave them off but would love to know your thoughts on Naomi Scott’s purple cape, Niecy Nash’s hot pink Monsoori gown and Lily James’ pink Versace number. For the guys, two stood out for me:

And I feel like I could not finish this off without sharing my thoughts on the real misses. What was Tracee Ellis Ross’s red in Carolina Herrera number? I was also not fan of the baby blue Bottega Veneta look that Kodi Smit-McPhee wore, I thought Halle Bailey looked like she was wearing a teal beach coverup, and I don’t really have words for Maya Rudolph’s orange feather caftan
Who do you think should have made the list for 2022 Oscars Best Dressed?
Marylou says
Sofia Carson in Giambattista Valli FW21 Couture is my favorite of the ones you featured. I also like the white ensemble of Judi Dench in all white Dolce and Gabbana for an age appropriate look.
Overall though I was underwhelmed in general with the looks this year. I truly expected more.

Love most of these but I really don’t get Serena’s style, with all the money and help that she has to me she never really gets it quite right…
Loved the movie though and wow here dad was a fighter.
