Drum Roll Please… I’m Back!

02/04/14 | fitness, Knee Surgery

Hi party people, I’m baccckkkkkkk!! One week after surgery I am happy to say I am back to 70%.  I am now able to bend my knee, actively crutching around Manhattan, and off pain killers.  Thank you to my wonderful blogging friends who took over my blog last week!  Janna, Karly, Alyssa, Helene and Kate I really REALLY appreciate it.

The past week has been pretty difficult, but I have to say but having my mom fly in for the surgery made all of difference.  Tuesday I fasted per instructions and went to the hospital for all of my prep-op tests.  I was glad to hear I passed with flying colors and was still a-okay for surgery (I did have small doubt that because I took off of work and told everyone about it that it was not going to happen).  I was also happy that the processing person declared me “very proficient” in English.  That is good, because it is the only one I speak.   I started getting nervous when pre-op took about two hours but it was just them being thorough!

When I came out of surgery my first worry was that it was 4:12 and visiting hours were from 4:00-4:15 and then not again until 6pm.  Well, the staff was very nice and let my mom come in and stay until I was allowed to leave at 7pm.  Honestly, it could not have gone better.  Over the past week I have been following my discharge orders religiously and was able to go back to work on Thursday. Here are some pictures from the last week:

This last time I had surgery I was in the hospital in for five days and on the last day I made it 100 feet on crutches in order to get discharged.  This time at two days post surgery I was crutching two blocks and one avenue in New York City to go to dinner with mom.  The two surgeries – putting the metal in and taking it out – almost do not compare. I was hesitant to believe the doctors when they said this one would be better but it is!  I have been on crutches for one week and it looks like I only might have a week or two left!

What does my life look like right now?  Something like this.

And I’ll leave you with a crutch selfie!

Thanks again for the well wishes and support!

Glad you are doing well and that it was a much easier surgery for you! Your knee and my belly look about the same right now–way bigger then usual and I’m hoping to be off pain killers soon too. Be careful on those crutches and heal up fast.

Ooh, that sounds like quite the process! I don’t know if I have the coordination for crutches, I’d probably fall down and totally re-injure myself.
