New York City Adventures

11/08/13 | discount websites, New York City, The Met

New York is a city of 8.3 million people and sometimes I feel like I can get a bit lost in the hustle and bustle, but every once and a while I remember to stop and smell the proverbial roses.  I have lived in New York City now for a year and a half and have not even cracked the surface of what this city has to offer.

Two weekends ago I took advantage of two of them by going on a boat cruise and taking a photography course in Central Park.   I bought tickets to both of these events through discount websites and had an absolutely terrific time.  As soon as I got home from the photography course I began looking up other activities in my wonderful city that I can do without breaking the bank.  These are eight offerings that caught my eye:

Annie on Broadway
Spend some time with everyone’s favorite orphan with this offer on Orchestra tickets to see Annie the Musical at the historic Palace Theatre in Times Square.  It is the production that Time Out New York said “recharges Broadway like a copper-topped battery of hope,” and Time magazine hailed as “the ultimate feel-good musical.” Annie “The Musical” on Broadway is the Winner of Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for Favorite Musical Revival. (Living Social for $85)

Chocolate Tour of New York
The Great New York Chocolate Tour is a two-hour walking tour that starts at Chelsea Market and includes 8 tastings from merchants such as Magnolia Bakery, Jacques Torres, and Vosges.  From classic truffles to salty caramels, from dark chocolate almond bark to the most exquisite chocolate mousse, from New York’s best cannoli and cupcakes to the best chocolate cake in the world, The Chocolate Tour of New York will satisfy your sweet tooth…chocoholics everywhere will love this tour! (Groupon for $21)
Uncover the Met’s Scandalous Past
Uncover the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Scandalous Past – Go incognito at the Met, a museum so famous you won’t believe its dark history and shocking stories. Art historian peers through the Met’s august facade, revealing the questionable purchases and scholarly frauds that built its collection.  Today, between its airy exhibition halls and secure storage facilities, the space holds more than two million artifacts and pieces of art from around the world.  (Groupon for $50)
Helium Arial Class
After learning how to gracefully spin, bend upside down, and swirl into stunning twists — you’ll feel ready to take your act on the road. Move like an aerial athlete with these unique classes and have a blast sculpting your arms and abs during this exciting alternative to the gym. (Living Social for $20)
Two Hour Painting Event
A two hour painting party at any of 30 hip area bars with all necessary materials provided including the alcohol! Booze has definitely led to you expressing yourself — from tearing up at cheesy made-for-TV movies to joining conga lines at weddings — so why not let potent beverages inspire your art? (Living Social for $35)
Mozzarella Cheese-Making Class
Italian restaurant Brick NYC shows small groups how to make mozzarella cheese from scratch and sweetens the deal with wine and antipasto platters. A good cheese is versatile—it can enhance the flavor of wine or repair craters left by lunar landing gear. This mozzarella cheese-making class for two with one bottle of wine and one antipasto platter.  (Groupon for $49)
One-Day Jewelry Workshop
Famed jeweler, Kristin Hanson, seen in Lucky and InStyle magazines leads intimate intro course at the International School of Jewelry and Design in Tribeca in which students craft baubles from metals During this six-hour workshop, aspiring jewelers use provided tools to saw and pierce sheet metal and build one elegant piece.  (Groupon for $49)
Spiderman on Broadway
Broadway’s Record Breaking Smash hit with music by Bono and U2 with High-Flying Aerial Stunts. Experience the spine-tingling thrills of SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark and watch as Spider-Man and Green Goblin literally whiz past you at high speeds. With this deal, you can get in on the action with a ticket for one with all new music by Bono and The Edge of U2.  (Living Social for $64)

Should I pick one or try them all?!

I’d say definitely go see Annie. One of the greatest thing about NYC is the shows. Having grown up in NY, I’ve seen Phantom of the Opera like 7 times (no lie!) and I never tire of it. It’s like a right of passage. Also, the chocolate tour looks like a great experience, I may have to do that.
Being a relatively new blogger, I’m always excited to find fellow NYC bloggers! I also started a series dedicated to NYC and surely hope mine is as cool as yours one day. I’m excited to follow along!

NYC has so much to do – I am not sure which to choose – my top picks would probably be the chocolate tour (who can resist chocolate!) or the jewelry class.
