When my family was in London I put together quite a packed itinerary for them, besides watching tennis at Wimbledon and the Hampton Court Flower Show we went to many hot spots and on the final night, my Dad and I had a delicious dinner at the Chiltern Firehouse. The glamorous former fire station had been on my list for nearly a year after coming across it on Instagram and I was finally able to get a reservation in the very popular dining room.
After a week of heavy food including steaks and Sunday roasts it was nice to change it up with a spot that focuses on seasonal foods and healthy eating. The menu constantly changes so it was a surprise when we arrived but none of the dishes we had from Michelin-starred chef Nuno Mendes disappointed.
We started with a pre-appitizer of bacon cornbread while I enjoyed a glass of Pinot Gris and my dad sipped on a beer as we examined the menu and the beautiful dining room. Then we ordered, baby beetroots with pistachios and ricotta for me and burrata with grilled peach and bitter leaves for my Dad, accompanies by a side of homemade bread and the most delicious fresh butter. For the entree we each switched to a glass of refreshing Sancerre as we thought it would pair well with our glazed cod, served over steamed greens and XO lobster bisque. B the end of the main course we were so full there was no room for dessert (or pudding as the Brits call it), a real travesty.
After dinner we went on a little walk around the firehouse (which is also a 5-star hotel) and I loved the comfortable lounge, adorable bar, chic bathroom, and charming garden. My only regret was that we had to leave – I will definitely be back!
