Greetings from Turks & Caicos and day five our of family vacation. I posted this shot on Instagram but it was too good not to share here as well, especially with the story behind it!

“I love you Mama. Lily fancy. Lily happy.” This is what my favorite girl said right before this photo was taken. And that makes my Mama heart so swell for so many different reasons. The first four I can think of?
1. The first night of vacation Lily burst into tears and told us she wanted to go home – new places can be scary when you’re two.
2. For the past few months she’s been a Daddy’s girl and when Mark is around usually wants nothing to do with me.
3. The trip took more planning and logistics than she will ever realize and even though in 10 or 20 years she won’t remember this trip I will and I can already tell you, it’s going to be a core memory.
4. Lily has been making so much progress in speech therapy the past few months – both public and private – and it’s so exciting to see her expressive language keep getting better and better. Eight words in a row that could be two sentences? That’s incredible.
And yes, this is our second set of Hill House nap dresses and as Lily said, we are fancy! (The context behind fancy is one I learned a few months ago nad have been trying to adopt. While she is only two self image, especially in girls, starts so young and it is a common habit of adults to say they are “getting pretty” or “getting beautiful” when they do hair, makeup, and get dressed up. I am working to shif the narraitive here by clearly articulating we are always pretty and always beautiful. However, sometimes we do get dressed up and when we do this we are getting fancy. THus because we put on nice dresses and I did my makeup we were both getting fancy for a family dinner at the resort).

Perfect dresses for a girls night out or really any “Fancy Occasion”. Those Hill house dresses are always a go to and travel so well and yes, are “fancy”. Lily must be so happy when she and her mom, who she loves so much are matching.
Such wonderful news, wow eight words together must have made your hear soar and made you so happy. Two is such a hard age to navigate and you are doing it so well. You must be so proud of her and your hard work.

Lovely matching mother/daughter dresses. I can tell that you all had a great vacation. I want to travel with my boyfriend but he won’t book a flight till the government shutdown is over. He can’t stand TSA on a good day. Imagine with delays. He be a screaming lunatic. I know the feeling with Daddy’s little girl- Our cat always goes to daddy for food. She bullies him. Today work outfit is a black jumpsuit with high heel open toe booties. Tomorrow’s rain storm is automatic work from home.
