I was lucky enough to get the two tone watch for my birthday which is both gold and silver. Then on my left hand I wear my engagement ring and wedding ring, both platinum (read silver) but on my right hand where my Georgetown class ring which is gold. Clearly I do not shy away from mixing metals but which one do I want for my smart ring?

I have not talked about it here yet but two months ago I purchased the ChatGPT premium membership and I use it so often I joke with Mark that I say “i am going to ask my best friend” and then type a query into ChatGPT. Since I a generous family member is going to get me an OUra Ring for my birthday I actually asked it “do I want a gold or silver Oura ring” and this is what it said:
What Oura says about finishes & trade-offs
- Oura Ring 4 is made of titanium, and the Gold, Silver, Rose Gold, and Brushed Titanium/Silver finishes use a PVD coating.
- The Rose Gold finish is designed to develop a patina over time (i.e. it will darken a bit depending on wear).
- Because the ring is subject to daily wear, scratches or wear could expose the base material or affect finish
My (Chat GPT’s) suggestion & what to think about
If I were choosing, I’d lean silver (or “silver / brushed silver”) because:
- It tends to show wear less obviously (scratches and chips blend better)
- It’s more neutral and versatile, matching anything
- With gold finishes, minor discoloration or “brassy” tones might come through over time, especially with coatings
- Lots of users seem to prefer silver when they use mixed metals or change styles often (forums mention gold sometimes looking “too green/brassy” for some)
The first and last points are the ones that hit home and I am very heavily leaning towards the shiny silver. Before I bite the bullet, any thoughts if you have an Oura ring?

Ps. I do know that Oura debuted a Ceramic Collection but they don’t speak to me. #sorryimnotsorry

I loveeeee my ring – you will too!
I went with gold. It does fade a bit and gets scuffed. I recommend a silicone cover for working out or cleaning.
