With two kids under two, the walls of even a big-for-NYC sized two bedroom apartment have started to like they’re closing in. While we have made it work so far, the time has come for a change — one that involves more space, a yard, and a bit of breathing room. Yes, this is a big life update, we’re officially moving to the suburbs.

We’ve found a rental house in Westchester County just 30 minutes from the city and not too far from where I grew up, though a few towns over. It feels both nostalgic and full-circle. After maternity leave is over I’ll be commuting into Manhattan via the same train line my dad took for years, getting off at Grand Central before hopping on the subway down to my office in SoHo. And while there are very few good things to have come out of a global pandemic I am thankful that post COVID world allows a hybrid work schedule so I don’t have to go into the city every day.
While we’re renting (not buying just yet), I still can’t help but get excited about making the space feel like home. I had daydreams of wallpaper and DIY projects when I first imagined moving to the suburbs, but with a newborn and toddler in tow I’ll be saving the Pinterest boards and power tools for another time. For now I will focus my my creative energy will go into arranging furniture, purchasing pieces we are missing, and finally hanging up artwork I’ve collected over the last 15 years.
2025 has been full of changes for our family and Lily doesn’t quite understand what’s happening yet though she is NOT a fan of all of the moving boxes in our apartment. To help her grasp the idea, we printed out a photo of our future “big blue house” and taped it next to her high chair. I hope it is starting to sync in and while it will be hard I can not wait to see the smile on her face when she sees her new playroom!

To be safeI won’t be sharing listing photos here (reverse image search makes privacy trickier than ever), but it’s an exciting new chapter for our family. So here we are, taking that big step and moving to the suburbs — chasing space, comfort, and a slower pace that fits our growing family. Stay tuned for updates as we settle in and make this house a home. Moving to the suburbs may not be easy, but it already feels like the right move.
