In my 20’s if my birthday had fallen on a Friday I would have certainly had a big night out, likely cocktails and dinner with friends but this year was different. Now officially in my mid 30’s with a toddler and another baby on the way I am more impressed that Mom & Dad got out of the house! I started the day with an early morning workout, a full day of my day job, and then as a gift my brother babysat Lily so Mark and I could go out to dinner.
The Milling Room, a restaurant on the Upper West Side, has been on my list for a few months so I was excited to get a reservation and eat some delicious food. I had checked out the menu ahead of time but based on the waiter’s recommendation made me change my order and I opted for the Spinach and Truffle Lasagne (hand-made green pasta, shiitake, baby spinach truffle, and parmesan). I usually go for meat but this veggie option was delicious and Mark got the steak. Paired with warm bread and a fun mocktail it was a great dinner. And I couldn’t help but take a few bathroom selfies with my almost 6-month baby bump. We finished up with ice cream at Gelateria Gentile and it was so tasty!
On Saturday we headed out of the city to Wilton, CT to celebrate the cutest little girl’s second birthday. Emilia is the daughter of one of my bridesmaids, Samantha, and we had a great time celebrating. The first half of the party was inside due to the rain but thankfully the weather cleared up and Lily got to try a bouncy castle and a trampoline for the first time – she had a blast. There were more than a dozen other kids there but for privacy on the Internet I have chosen not to share pictures of them which limit the shots below.
After the birthday party and a nap on Lily’s part (though I wish me too) Lily went to an aquarium for the first time. It was extra special for me as I grew up going to The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk so it was very fun to bring her there. At 18 months she is a bit too little but still had a great time, especailly with the fish tanks that were lit up with the sea creatures so close to the glass. Hello Mr. Turtle!
We then headed back to the city but were up again early Sunday morning to drive out of the city again to Orchard Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard in North Salem, New York. It took us a bit over an hour to get there and met my friend Emily and her daughter Lucy for a fun day. We started out while the the girls were in a good mood picking apples from half a dozen kinds of trees. Lily had a great time riding on Mark’s shoulders as at 26-pounds she is HEAVY in the baby carrier. Once we overflowed our bags we had a picnic lunch and checked out their pumpkin patch before heading back to the cars so the girls could nap on the way home.

Wow, a lot of photos and quite a few words in this birthday weekend recap! Lastly, to talk about throwbacks I visited the same apple orchard, Orchard Harvest Moon Farm, back in 2017 with my family. Goodness things can change in seven years.
It was quite a busy birthday weekend, don’t you agree?
