Time really is a thief – because how is my baby girl already half a year old? Time is flying and I can’t believe she’s going to nursery next month when I return to work. (Here in the UK they call daycare nursery.)/ This is the sixth time I am posting a Lily Harper monthly update and oh how my little girl has grown!! Unlike her adventures in August Lily only went on one trip this month but it was a big one 3,443 miles or 5,540 km for my brother’s wedding in New York. Here are the details of her six month update:
Nicknames: Squishy, Monkey, Lily Girl, Blue Eyes,, and Big Girl – All the same as last month adding “abu-boo” which Mark says is like Aladdin and pretty, pretty priciness. Then certain family members and friends have names that only they call her – “Itsy Bitsy” by her maternal grandmother, “Baby Lily” by her cousins, “chicken” by her babysitter”, and “Mrs. Magoo” by her maternal grandfather when she’s being cranky.
Firsts: Lily went to her first wedding and it was her first time being a flower girl and first time wearing a bow. She visited her first museum, London’s Young V&A, and attended her first music class. She watched her first Disney movie, Frozen, in 6 stops and starts as I have found films are a great way for me to file her nails. Lily has also started sitting up going for 10+ minutes assisted and lately, a few minutes unassisted.
In addition to the foods she tried in august (Sweet potato, carrot, broccoli, spinach, and cauliflower) we have added nearly a dozen more foods the list; avocado, bananas, egg, green peas, parsnips, pears, prunes, (baby) rice, Swede, tofu, and toasted white bread
Weight: I would guess over 15 pounds but we have not had her weighed in a few weeks.
Length: No idea! Check-ups are not a regular occurrence here in the UK but as she was 25 inches the last time we measured her many weeks ago, at least that!
Teeth: ZERO! I say this in all caps because our baby girl has been teething for months now and no teeth have popped through – hopefully soon!
Loves: Lily loves chewing on things, everything and anything, especially Sophie and cold things. She loves when people play with her, especially peekaboo, and has mastered side to side rolling. She enjoys listening to nursery rhymes and when mommy and daddy get sick of those Disney and Broadway musical soundtracks. Similar to last month she still adores being in the Babybjorn carrier and playing in her BabyBjörn Bouncer with the wooden toy bar.
Lily has gotten better over the past few weeks of playing by herself and toys which rattle or crinkle tend to keep her entertained the longest. When sleeping she loves very dark rooms with white noise blasting and being in her sleep sack, though her arms can’t be swaddled. Lastly, Lily loves seeing the world and taking everything in whether she is being held, in her pram, eating solids, or even nursing.
Hates: She still hates being left alone for too long or any extended tummy time. This month she has developed bad stranger danger – she smiles at others when in the stroller or being held by mom or dad but screams when others try to hold her. And teething, teething is the worst.
*New* Memories I Never Want to Forget:
- Speaking of wearing a bow for the first time, headband bows are a no, especially as they either dig into her head or fall off of they are too big, the grippy clip ones are much better like wee ones
- Lily loves being lifted overhead, tipped sideways, or bounced including moves which we call “flying baby and “baby yoga”
- She almost always giggles when Mommy starts dancing and in workout classes loves when I do push ups and kiss her at the bottom of each one
- Sh is absolutely fascinated by screens and moving pictures
- I can not believe her neck does not get sore as she is constantly turning towards lights and sounds
- Lily transitioned from the bedside cot in our room to sleeping in the crib in her room (and we stalk her on the Nanit)
- We have almost daily sing-alongs to Wicked (Broadway), Frozen, and the Lion King #hakunamatata
Overall it has been a fun and busy month with our Lily girl as I think you can tell from this six month update!

Linda says
She is so cute I just can’t stand it. She definitely gets cuter every time I see a new photo of her. So glad you’re enjoying her so much and taking her on so many adventures. So great for children to explore so many opportunities.
