If you have been following along on Insta you know i have been working on my fitness. This is our 10th week of stay at home here in London and I purposely did not mention fitness in 5 Things I Have Started Doing Since London Lockdown post as I wanted to share a dedicated update about it here. First, I must say having a spin bike in the flat has been a game changer and this is one of the most frequent questions I get asked! I have had a monthly membership to a spin studio last Fall and in early March during the lock down when the gym was forced to close I had the opportunity to take a bike home with me. The condition is that I am still paying my monthly membership bfee but instead of going to the studio, we have the bike at our house until the gym re-opens!
In the middle of March I shared a fitness update and much of what I shared in that post; mixing workouts, sleeping enough, reverse eating, and working out with my boyfriend are all still true but now that I can’t go to the gym studio – or really anywhere for that matter – has changed this a bit.
The first is creating seperation in my day when I spend all of it in the same flat that is less than 1,000 square feet. I make sure to get up and get dressed for work like I usually would, make up and all. Then when it is time for working out I need to change and the simple act of doing that helps with a mind shift. Speaking of a shift, I also have made a concerted effort to carve time out and unplug – I can’t have my phone near me or here pings on the group chat at work. I think of this as if I was in a workout class where phone are not allowed.
The second to last is to keep it varied . This may sound quite odd but having a spin hike in the house makes that an easy go-to especially as we have been taking classes via the Peloton app. This has been awesome but this does not work on uppe body or core, nr does it address stretching so I have been trying to do at least two non-spin workouts per week. As I shared earlier this year, I have been using this yoga mat, along with these resistance bands, a pair of small hand weights, a mini exercise ball for barre as well as non skid gripper socks, a small ab roller with knee pad, and this chocolate protein powder. Last, is accountability. NO one sees me working out, no one knows what I am doing at home and no one knows if I gave it 10% or 110%. Thus I have found a two found accountability that works for me, my fitness watch and social media. I know that might sound weird but sharing my workouts on social media helps me.
How are you finding fitness at home?

You are doing a very good job with your home workouts. I am thinking about getting a pelton bike. With the gyms closed in NYC I been riding bike and jogging to stay in shape with boyfriend. I have a few free weights and I been using them too. Boyfriend likes basketball and the looney politicians here had the basketball hoops taken off so he cant play basketball. Looking for a vaxation. It looks like that NYC summer is going to be awful. Beaches here are closed till further notice. Virginia Beach or Myrtle Beach might be possibilities for vacation because they are open.

Thankful that I have a Peloton’. It has saved my body and my mind during the virus.
Glad you are keeping up such a rigorous work out and life routine. From everything I have read that is the best way to get through this unprecedented time.

You are so inspirational. Lost my motivation.
Any hints on how to get it back?

Whatever you are doing it certainly is working for you. You look super.
Biking has been my main form of social distance exercise. That an wall sits which gets me plenty of laughs from whomever is walking by. I also do dips on my coffee table, another very funny look but hey, with some push ups thrown in, doing the best I can.

It is really tough. Miss the weight varieties and the machines.
Never mind missing the classes that always make me do more that I really want to and the terrific videos that my spin instructor plays that helps me take my mind off of the pain.
Looks like you are doing a great job.
