A Great Addition to My Favorite Workout

12/27/17 | fitness, swimming

Summer Solutions After Splash at the PoolOne of my favorite things about coming down to Florida for the holidays is being able to swim laps outside. While doing laps a few days ago another swimmer complimented my stroke. I joked that I am “retired” now but, it really is true – after 12 years of competitive swimming I now only swim for fun. Competing for Georgetown was a treat and swimming is never something I will lose but I certainly am not at peak Division I level anymore.

That said, I did take away a few things after many years of swimming – sometimes as much of 25 hours a week – and one of them had to do with chlorine. Believe it or not, I am mostly immune to the smell of chlorine but that does not mean those around me are too. And not only does chlorine smell, it also does great damage to one’s hair and swimsuits. That’s why I am so thankful to be working with a great company that has solved this problem, Summer Solutions.

While I used to swim as many as 8,000 yards in a two-hour practice my Florida workouts cap out much sooner than that. It’s still great exercise though. After my few thousand meters earlier this week I went through the whole Summer Solutions post-swim routine and let me tell you, it made quite a difference! The After Splash kit really is the best. It includes the Swimmer’s Own Shower Gel, One Step Shampoo and Conditioner, and the cute microfiber towel.

Once I got home from the pool it was time for a rinse and to be honest, I don’t usually shower in my swimsuit but for the sake of public photos on the blog – hello swimsuit. I started off with the One Step Shampoo and Conditioner. Now that my hair is so dark I don’t have to worry about a green tint but, chlorine is especially damaging so it’s key to shower as soon after swimming as possible. Once my hair was clean, I followed up washing my body with the Swimmer’s Own Shower Gel, made to neutralize chlorine. I really liked the consistency and how it made my skin feel mainly because it has two of my favorite ingredients – aloe vera and vitamin E!

The last step was an hour later before heading out to dinner – I made sure to use the Suit Solutions which is a swimsuit rinse that neutralizes chlorine and eliminates odors after a long swim while protecting your suit. As you may recall from my 2013 post Swim Like You Mean It, I only wear polyester suits and I love that this product is effective at removing chlorine but  won’t age the material or cause colors to fade!

The trio of these products are going to be a new staple for me. If you swim – whether daily, recreationally for exercise, or only on vacation – that you will find these products as helpful as I have!  And as an added bonus, you can buy them on Amazon!  Thank you, Summer Solutions, for sponsoring this post

I love swimming and really wish I had a pool. I can start going with a friend to the YMCA though.

I can’t even imagine competing in swimming competitions. I learned how to swim quite late in my life and even now 30+ I don’t really feel safe in deep waters. In the swimming pool, it’s ok, I really like it, I do swim for sports and pleasure!
I like your products, I will have a look if they deliver in my country

My sister swims and you’re right she always smells like chlorine. I’m going to get this for her. Sounds like a great product. Thanks for the recommendation. Hope you had a Merry Christmas.

I’m going to have to tell my mom about this. We hate it when our good swimsuits lose they are elastic. We’ll have to give this a try.

I love swimming laps and I think the chlorine is even worse indoors – this is so good to know about!
