First, for those not up on the latest social media terms GOAT in call caps does not refer to a funny animal but is an acronym for the term Greatest of All Time. It is often used to describe sports stars – Lebron James in basketball, Roger Federer in tennis, Michael Phelps in swimming, or Muhammad Ali in boxing – for example. But today I am using it to refer to not only an athlete, in fact a former professional figure skater, but also someone who deservers this title for a myriad of other reasons. My mom.
It is the last day of April and that means today is a very special day, it is my Mom’s birthday! And thus, I just wanted to take a minute and say a HUGE happy birthday to my OG travel buddy since day one. We had big plans for our next adventure – she was set to come visit me in London in the middle of May and we had plans to go see museums, head to the theater, and attend the Chelsea Flower Show but this stupid virus has cancelled those plans.
There has never been a more loyal fan or loving supporter of everything and anything I have every wanted to do – whether that was start a fashion blog (she has become quite the photographer and has taken more than half of my Sparkles and Shoes outfit photos) to supporting me in every professional endeavour I have even dreamed of. Until we can celebrate in person again Mom, I am raising a glass of wine to you today (though not oaky chardonnay, that is your thing) and let’s take a walk down memory lane of the past few decades.

Adorable. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful relationship with your mom.
I am jealous, wish I did.

Happy birthday to Kelly’s mom. This is such a beautiful shout out to your mom. I love the baby pictures. Yeah I totally agree with you that this is a stupid virus that needs to just go away. Your mom should go to London to visit you all and enjoy all of the fun things in life. When London reopens I am sure you mom will visit. I feel the worse is over and the world will be back to normal soon.

Gee I bet your mom cried when she read this. Such a nice tribute and you were a really cute baby.
Not sure which photo I liked better, the mirror one or the one when you are on top of her shoulders.
Happy Birthday to Kelly’s mom.

What a great tribute to your mom. I hope that one day my daughter will say such nice things about me.

Kelly, that is a wonderful homage to your mom and so terrific to have a mom who is such an avid supporter of all you do. You were an adorable baby and have matured into a beautiful woman. It is amazing your mom hasn’t aged at all since you were a baby. Enjoy this day honoring her.
