Today I bring you the fifth navy and white striped dress that has made it on to Sparkles and Shoes series, Fashion Friday. Sorry, I am not sorry. This Gap number is soft, stretchy, and packs quite well which has made it a long standing favorite. Writing this makes me realize this navy striped dress definitely needs to be an addition to my most loved series but that is a post for another day.
One of the funniest things about this dress is I never meant to buy it. A few years ago when I was working in New York it was a very warm Summer day and I did not have any big meetings so I wore this dress to the office at one point I forgot about the sleeves, stood up, and it ripped right across the chest. Now there was no indecent exposure as all the rip did was expose my nude bra but this was not something I could wear for the rest of the day. Thus, I grabbed a coworker’s shawl, threw it over me, and left the office building in terms of the quickest thing I could find. A few doors down from my office on 42nd Street was a Gap so I popped in, grabbed the first thing that caught my eye and without trying it on, and bought it. And thus, the origin of what is now one of my favorite dresses.
Speaking of the fact it packs well, I threw it in my bag two weeks ago as I knew it would be perfect for our weekend in York. As I mentioned, it rained horrifically on the Sunday so I paired this dress with a vest for warmth and a pair of sneakers meant for jumping puddles and headed out. The outfit worked quite well (the dress was perfect for a day out and for the five hour drive home) and because of the weather we had the York Art Gallery, where these photos were taken, nearly entirely to ourselves!
