Thursday Trend: Capes

01/31/13 | American Apparel, Derek Lam, Ferragamo, Marc Jacobs, Phillip Lim, Rag + Bone, Thursday Trend, Valentino, YSL

In stark opposition to last week, the past few days have been unseasonably warm in New York City.  I take this opportunity as an excuse to ditch your heavy winter jacket, whether it be a pea coat, puffer jacket, or one with toggles, and try out one of this seasons best trends, CAPES!

Capes have been all over the runways but these five looks are my favorite, from left to right:
Rag & Bone, Derek Lam, Halston , Rachel Zoe, 3.1 Phillip Lim

We have even seen capes on the boys this season:
Yves Saint Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo, Moncler Clare Blue and Valentino
Here are my suggestions for the second half of winter:
ONE Etro / TWO Ungaro Vintage / THREE Jane Norman
FOUR Maria Calderera / FIVE The Outnet / SIX She Inside

To avoid looking like a Marvel Comics superhero I suggest pairing your cap with neutrals and skinny jeans to avoid looking like a tent. They are perfect when the temperature is in the mid 50’s, warm but not overpowering, and of course, very stylish!

Will you be rocking a cape this season?

LOVE this post! Capes are the best…such a fun addition to any wardrobe. And, I feel like you don’t see them worn that much so when you do wear them, you stand out 🙂

I like #5! I often think capes make people look bigger than they are but perhaps with skinny jeans and heels they could be more flattering!
