Taking in Budapest at Night

02/05/20 | Budapest, Hungary, Travel, UNESCO

The Hungarian Parliament from the Danube at Night

There is no question that Budapest is one of my favorite cities, not just in Europe but in the entire world.  There is something about the old world charm that really brings it to life but one of my best things is how the city lights up at night.

You may recall that on my first visit to Hungary I recapped  this love with a post called An Evening Boat Cruise in Budapest in 2015.    I had booked a boat cruise during twilight from the most popular company, Danube Legend – Legenda, and spent an hour going up and down the Danube as the sun was setting.  While this may not sound like something you want to do twice, more than four years later I booked the exact same tour and took my family.  This time we were bundled up in scarves and coats, not able to stay on the roof deck the whole time, but still greatly enjoyed getting to see the sun set over Buda and all of the buildings light up.

The evening cruise was just as good as I remembered it being.  It was fun to hear all of the facts about the city over the headset while sipping a bottle of bubbles as we cruised by and the view really is so panoramic.  Plus, if you take this cruise in the Winter months when the sun sets around 4pm you still have plenty of time to make it to an early dinner reservation after it is over.   Take a look at some of my favorite shots from the ride:

Will definitely add to my bucket list.

I wanted to take my parents on a trip for their anniversary. This looks promising.

What’s your advice? They are pretty mobile and I really think they will like the baths/spa place you mentioned in a past blog.

If yes, how many days? Thanks.

I had no idea it was such a pretty city.

I have seen the ads for river cruises there but never paid much attention to them or the city as I thought it was boring and for old people.

Totally wrong. Breathtaking shots and city.
