Getting to Know Me with 101 Questions

01/08/20 | Getting to Know Me

After seven years and a half I have blogged about nearly every topic and for anyone who wants to know more there is an about me page in my header. Even if you are new reader you’ll know I ramble on about new things many times a week to today I am going to kick it back to the kind of post that was popular in 2009 when I started reading blogs and was just fading out in 2012 when I started writing mine – a getting to know me post.

Travel Blogger Kelly Donlin at the Durdle Door in Dorset - Getting to Know Me

Two years ago I did a post answering 50 Completely Random Questions that People Rarely Ask and I am glad so many people found it interesting or insightful.  And since statistics show many of you are new to Sparkles and Shoes in the last two years I thought I would do another fun take on a getting to know me post.

I found a list of 371 getting to know you questions but let’s be serious, most of the time people just read the photos here so I would bore you to tears with that many so I answered some that I thought you all might find interesting:

  1. Are you named after anyone? Nope.
  2. If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to? I have never really thought about it as I like my name.  In kindergarten I tried to convince people it was spelt “Kelley” instead of “Kelly” but that was about as far as it got.
  3. Where are you from? New York.
  4. What would your parents have named you if you were the opposite gender?  Kevin (which is my younger brother’s name).
  5. What do you call your grandparents?   On my Dad’s side,  Nana and Grandpa and on my Mom’s side, Meme and Gumpa.
  6. What is your best physical feature? I really like my dimples. or grübchen as I learned on one of my work trips last year.
  7. What is your biggest fear?  Hosting a party and no one showing up.  To be fair, it is not my biggest fear in life (probably loosing a family member) but it is the number one thing that came to mind.
  8. What is your biggest regret?  Not studying abroad in University.  Granted, I was on the Georgetown swim team for four years and did not really allow for study abroad but I regret not taking 4 months and going somewhere like Australia.
  9. What is your eye color?  On my driver’s license it says blue and I would say that is mostly true, they are blue with a bit of yellow and a bit of green and tend to change colors.
  10. Who is your favorite actress?  Julia Roberts.  She really does not need an explanation but I love the range of her acting abilities and how she really makes you believe in the character from Vivian in Pretty Woman to Erin in Erin Brockovich to Laura in Sleeping with the Enemy.
  11. What is your favorite color? Cobalt Blue.
  12. What is your favorite drink?   Flat white with oat milk, sparkling water,  Whispering Angel Rose, or a Mojito without sugar – depends on what we are talking about.
  13. What is your favorite ice-cream flavor? Mint Chocolate Chip.
  14. What is your favorite physical activity? A close tie between swimming and spinning.
  15. What is your favorite snack? Goldfish. And it’s probably a good thing they are very hard to find in England.
  16. What is your favorite type of clothing? Dresses.
  17. What is your favorite social media channel? Instagram.  #shamelessplug
  18. Are you scared of heights?  Nope.
  19. If you could eliminate one weakness or limitation in your life, what would it be? Being afraid of what other people might think.
  20. Who is the first person you call when something exciting happens? Mom and then Kitty.
  21. Can you close your eyes and raise your eyebrows? Yes.  (This might be the most random question on the list and yes, I did check try this before answering).
  22. Do you sing in the shower?  I will sing along to music but will not sing just out of the blue.
  23. Do you spell the color as grey or gray? Gray.
  24. Do you have a tattoo? Nope.
  25. Where’s your favorite place to take an out-of-town guest?  Columbia Road Flower Market, an afternoon High Tea, or a visit to the Sky Garden.
  26. Do you have any birthmarks? If so, where? A small one on the inside of my right calf but the most noticeable thing now is the seven inch scar on my left knee from surgery.
  27. Who sent the last text message you received? My Mom.
  28. Who was the last person you ate dinner with? My boyfriend.
  29. Who was your first Celebrity crush? Josh Hartnett in Pearl Harbor.
  30. What is your most embarrassing moment? I have had quite a few in the past year and a half moving to England and using American phrases that DEFINITELY mean different things in the UK than they do in the States.

  32. What is at the top of your bucket list?  Diving in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, hiking Machu Picchu, or going to Antarctica.

  34. How many countries have you been to? 70
  35. How many oceans have you swum in?  This may be sad but I had to look up how many Oceans there are  – the answer is five in case you were curious.  Thus, my answer is three;  Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific. I am missing Arctic and Southern.
  36. How many pairs of shoes do you currently own? Haha, great question and I have absolutely no idea.  Between my flat in London, my parents’ house in the States plus the things I put in storage from when I moved across the Atlantic, I would guess 120?

Hey! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any issues with hackers?
My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no
backup. Do you have any solutions to stop hackers?

I wish I spoke a for language too.

A lot of your answers made me giggle. I loved the first date about not being able to drive. The same thing happened to me.

I can only imagine the saying the wrong thing when it means something OK in the US and it doesn’t in the UK especially if you’re at work.

I can never watch enough Friends too. I always watch it when I’m feeling a little blue and it makes me have a giggle. Have a great day.
