ions earlier in the week I thought it would be a great idea to follow suit. So, without further ado, here is a little bit more about me!
Favorite color: Royal, cobalt blue. You can find my past posts about it here and here.
Favorite number: Eight. I have never really believed in lucky numbers, but if I had to pick one, it would be eight. Growing up I was the kid who said math was their favorite subject when most of my classmates would have responded art or recess. Nope, I preferred fractions and long division. This is the only reason I can think of when trying to explain why eight is my favorite number; 8 is a composite number, its proper divisors being 1, 2, and 4, it is twice 4 or four times, eight is a power of two, also known as 23, and the first number of the form p^3, p being an integer greater than 1. So I guess if I had to pick, eight is my favorite number. I like the roundness, the symmetry, and its’ likeness to the infinity sign.
Dream career: Kathryn asked me this last week in our interview. She phrased it as the dream I am currently chasing and I told her, “Creating a small empire around my blog, Sparkles and Shoes, and being able to pursue the amazing opportunities that have arose in a more full-time capacity.” That is my answer and I am sticking to it (for now).
Where do you see yourself living when you’re on your own? In a few months, yay! But no more about this because I have already beaten the bush on this one.
Favorite way to travel: By train. Until a few months ago I would have said by plane but with trains I love being able to go to the station 20 minutes before your departure and calmly walk on. In my experience they are far fewer delays and usually the train stations are much closer to where I want to go than the airports. Amtrak is my favorite way to get to Boston or Washington, D.C.
What do you do in your free time? Well this little blog certainly takes up quite a bit of time but I do multitask and almost always watch something on Hulu or Netflix when I am blogging. On the weekends I really like doing something knew, whether exploring a new part of town, trying a new restaurant, or a new exercise craze.
Favorite clothing stores: My go-tos are Ann Taylor, Anthropologie, C. Wonder, Forever 21, H+M, J.Crew, Jack Rogers, Kate Spade, LOFT and White House Black Market recently discovered Joe Fresh. There clothes are adorable, well made, and reasonable – a perfect trio in my book! I will definitely be turning to them for my basics from now on.
Who would you like to see in concert? Beyonce, Ben Rector, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, and Matt Nathanson. I really would like to go to more so friends, take note!
Favorite tea blend? In college I swore by the Moroccan Mint at our university run coffee shops but I have recently made the switch to peppermint tea, specifically Harney and Sons Peppermint Herbal Tea
.
Do you collect anything? I used to collect stamps and now have a very large collection but I have not in years. I also used to collect snow globes from vacation but I have not in a while. The next time I go home I really want to take a good look at my stamps, I think I have some cool ones!

I can’t sleep without: A noise machine and a hard pillow.
If you were given 1 million dollars all for yourself what would you do with it? Well realistically I would have to give half to the government from capital gains taxes. (jeez, what a finance answer) Then I would probably save / invest 60%, go on world tour or a few big trips with 20%, and would keep the other 20% for investment purchases (hello quilted Chanel bag).
What is your favorite season? Summer. Period.
Favorite make-up brand? Eek, this is a hard one. Sephora is a good default answer because they make some great products and sell all of my favorites but I would have to say it is a tie between NARS and Urban Decay as you have seen here, here, and here.
Do you sleep with your doors open or closed? Closed, just because and since I have roommates
Why did you start blogging? I first started blogging in August of 2012. I love looking back to my first post where I stated the purpose of my blog and how it is evolved since then.
Favorite treat to eat? Smart Food white cheddar popcorn, moist homemade carrot cake or creamy, rich gelato but if I had to pick just one thing, red velvet!

Do you have any magazine subscriptions? Yes, and they are super nerdy – Money Magazine, Forbes, and Kiplinger’s. I used to get Vogue, Glamour, Marie Claire and Elle Magazine but I found I was not reading them. Instead I pick up the occasional one at the airport.
What were you doing at 12AM last night? Fast asleep, I try really hard to get those eight hours. Awake typing this. In Atlantic City for a work conference but I need to make sure Sparkles and Shoes still happens!
Favorite perfume? Right now it is a tie between Chanel’s Mademoiselle and their Chance perfume. I use Kat Von D’s Sinner occasionally but the two classy ones are my everyday.
And there you have it, a bit more about me!

Hey this was a great post, loved getting to know more about you. Totally random story, sort of, when my husband and I were getting married and my mom went to the post office to get the stamps, the Ronald Reagan collectors stamp had just come out, and for that weekend only the post office was hand cancelling the letters with his signature. Of course my mom had all 75 invitations with stamps and hand cancelling. I think the people in line who were there from hundreds of miles away and flew in to get this done, because they were only doing it at this specific branch, were going to kill her. But she wanted what she wanted. When the invitation came in the mail, my uncle wouldn’t let my cousin and aunt open it cause he wanted to save the stamp. haha.

Never heard of Joe Fresh. They have really cute stuff!! The prices are pretty good too. I’ll just pretend I never saw it for now as this is not a good time for shopping!
