Movie Magic and ATVing in Ouarzazate

ATV in the Morocco Dessert by Ouarzazate

Welcome to a new week and another travel post! I have been so many places lately that I am getting a pretty hefty back log of travel content and I am going to do my best to catch up. I was flipping through photos and realized I never shared with you the rest of my Morocco photos and I would like to think I have some pretty good ones!  You may recall I have posted from the Mosque in Casablanca and my experience camping in the Sahara but I have a ton more to share!

Today I am going to give you an overview if the afternoon I spent in Ouarzazate doing two very different activities – touring the a movie studios and ATVing at sunset.  First, Atlas Studios was not what I expected because I was picturing Universal Studios in my mind and this was far from it which I quickly realized, makes sense.  This is the largest film studio in the world and is famous for it’s proximity to the desert and mountains.  Many of the movies filmed here I had not seen but I did like the chance to interact with the sets and Gladiator is one of my favourite films.  I would be cautious about recommending a visit though as there is no tour (unless you were in a special group like mine) and nothing has labels or signs to explain what it is -you can check out the Trip Advisor reviews for more if you are really interested.  But with our guide, it was quite a neat experience:

The movie studio tour lasted a bit longer than an hour and then we changed clothes to head into the dessert.  At a nearby shop we donned intense helmets and tied bandanas to protect against the sand before we hopped on ATVs. Our route took us whizzing by the studios we had toured earlier including the slave camp set from Game of Thrones and we spent more than an hour zipping up and down sand dunes which was incredible, take a look:

If you had to pick between these two activities in Ouarzazate which would get your vote?

I would have a hard choice deciding. I think I would just want to do both and squeeze it all in. They both look like so much fun..

ATVing is one of my favorite things to do. I was really scared the first time I did it and my boyfriend made me drive my own. Holly cow I was so scared but once I got the hang of it it was so much fun.

To do it where you were would be amazing.

It would be so hard for me to pick. I’ve gone atving once before and it is so much fun. But to be able to go to your other spot is fabulous too.
