Brownie Batter Overnight Protein Oatmeal

03/22/16 | Delicious Eats, In the Kitchen, Recipe Ideas

This past weekend I made overnight oats for the eighth time and seeing as I make it in batches of four that is over 30 mornings of this delicious protein packed breakfast. When I started on my fitness journey I was super concerned about the number of calories I was eating and only a few months in did I realize the importance of hitting your macros – the correct number of carbs, fat, and protein everyday.

For the past few months one of the most difficult items I have found is getting more than 100 grams per day of protein. It is very, very difficult. And yes, I do realize for many people this is too much but I work out every day and working closely with my nutritionist, we determined I need it. To help me with that goal I now start every morning with a delicious serving of my brownie batter overnight protein oatmeal:

When I realized, thanks to My Fitness Pal, just how much protein I was missing out on I started trying out different types of protein powder – first the Fairway brand from the grocery store, then a small container from GNC, and finally I landed on the holy grail Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard in Double Rich Chocolate. It is the #1 Best Seller in all of Sports nutrition on Amazon and has more than 8,000 five star reviews.

As soon as I purchased five pound tub boasting more than 75 servings I looked for a way I could start my morning off with a big kick and came across a recipe from Dashing Dish for a delicous sounding Brownie Batter Overnight Protein Oatmeal. After a few trials I have adapted Katie’s receive to better suit my needs and this is how I make it:

One delicious serving of my brownie batter protein oatmeal, prepared as the recipe instructs and with the brands I have pictured, contains 262 calories comprised of 5.2 grams of fat, 21.8 grams of cabs, and 33.8 grams of protein, a real 1-2-3 punch to get your morning started.  (And that does not include the chocolate shavings on the top, those are just for the picture 🙂 )

This looks delicious! I’m on my journey to returning to my fit self as well. I’m taking Orgain Protein shakes in the morning. They’re delicious, but this seems like a fun way to get all my nutrition in one. Thanks for sharing!
