Would You Trash the Dress?

08/27/15 | wedding

Riviera Maya Trash the Dress

As someone who loves weddings I  am fascinated with the launches of new bridal lines, engagement ring trends, color combinations, cake designs, and the hundreds of other details that go into the biggest day of people’s lives.  My wedding Pinterest board has over 670 photos and it only keeps growing.  However, one odd trend that keeps popping up is trash the dress.

I first learned about the trash the dress idea when my handy USA Today news alerts shared the story of Shelby Swink and their article, “Dumped bride makes splash with ‘trash the dress”.  For her situation the paintball pictures were great way to cope and it got me thinking, do brides who actually go through with their weddings still trash the dress?  The answer is an overwhelming yes.  While some photographers offer trash the dress services in pools most brides seem to go swimming in the ocean or play in paint. Here is are a collection of some unique trash the dress shots.

This trend to me just seems a bit odd but I do have to say one thing, if you are going to trash the dress, trash you real dress, not a second you bought for photos or because it “sparkles under water”. Go big or go home.  And to answer the question, no, I would not trash the dress, I would frame it!

These photos are stunning but I could never bring myself to do it. I love my dress so much! One day I would love to have it displayed a la Adrienne Maloof.

When I get married I might go swimming in my dress but definitely not the same day!

That’s such a waste, but since its not my dress, I love the images.

This concept of trashing the dress is very interesting! I don’t think I will do it but I do like the picture with a couple underwater, it’s pretty cool!

OMG I could never!! I love the idea and have friends who have done it. I might be too sentimental but there is a part of me that wishes my future little girl would want to wear my dress. That and well, its just too darn pretty to trash!

I love the photos, but no way could I do that to my dress! I guess unless you can get it cleaned and back to the way it was? But nope, don’t think I would have done it, I’m too A type to do something like that!

I would be terrified to trash the dress. Sure one of the underwater photos looks amazing, but I think there are other pictures to take that can look just as great without ruining the dress.

My someday dress budget is definitely under 1500, but even if I only spend 1000, I’m not trashing it. It looks fun, yes, but I just couldn’t do it. The water ones don’t really concern me that much because it’s water, it can be cleaned, as long as it’s not silk or something like that).

As beautiful as I think the ocean/underwater pictures are, I can’t imagine ruining my dress!

Hahah I think it would be tough to trash the dress, especially if you’d spent SO MUCH time looking for it! But, it does make for some amazing photos…
