My Best Friend’s Detroit Wedding

07/17/17 | Detroit, Travel, United States, wedding

Wine at the Port of Detroit

No, not the movie, but the real thing! For the first time I headed to Detroit on Friday and the 48 hours I spent in Michigan this weekend were incredible!  I landed early Friday afternoon and after a quick stop at the hotel headed to the beautiful venue called the Roostertail. The venue was gorgeous and the rehearsal was seamless, and even the flower dog Nutella behaved well! Then it was off to the hour rehearsal dinner at Port Authority in the heart of Downtown Detroit which complete with drinks, delectable food, and casino games. I wore a new dress, the J.O.A. Frill Sleeve Dress in Blue/White, and it was perfect for the occasion!

Saturday morning we got going at 8am and had a lovely morning getting ready with all of the ladies getting their hair done at the salon and then all of the bridesmaids got our makeup done professionally.  In the early afternoon we all put on our dresses, the nine bridesmaids the BHLDN Fluer Dress in Navy (which was beautiful) and the bride her stunning dress.  After a few photos in the backyard we headed to a local park, the couple did a first look, we took tons of shots withe the groomsmen, the bridal party, the full wedding party, as well as some family photos before heading to the venue.

I can not wait to see how the professional shots came out because between the two photographers, videographer, and the drone I am sure there are some really amazing photographs! After we finished with photos we headed to the venue and then got underway with the celebrations. An hour of cocktails greeted guests before the amazing 45-minute outdoor ceremony before the party really kicked off and went past midnight.  I had never been to a Jewish wedding so it was amazing to get to see all of the traditions from the formal signing Ketubah to watching the groom smash glass and the happy couple in the hora chair dance!  And I would be remiss to not mention the amazing stations all over the venue from the Moscow Mule and vodka bar to the the custom coconut covered chicken fingers and incredible milkshakes, so much deliciousness. We ended the official party just after midnight and it was a long and terrific day celebrating the wedding of two amazing people!

Perhaps the sweetest part though was at 10:30pm on the dot when the guests gathered outside and the groom surprised his bride with one of the most beautiful displays of fireworks I have seen in a long time.  As I was in Finland for the 4th of July I had not seen fireworks yet in 2017 and these more than made up for it – in fact they were so robust we thought the finale was three different times.  If you follow me on Snapchat or Instastories though you know I was torn between the beautiful display and the look on the bride’s face – it was pure joy!  Press play on the video below!

Believe it or not I have many more photos than this handful but hopefully they give a sense of just how much fun Friday an Saturday’s celebrations were! We did not stop there though, this Detroit wedding continued with Sunday brunch, for those who made it, was at an adorable park in Grosse Pointe, only a few blocks where the bride grew up where bagels, coffee, lox, bacon, eggs, and a variety of other yummy bites greeted the guests.  From there I packed and headed to the airport, actually making it back in time for dinner with my family in New York City!

I am so happy you got to visit Detroit. I was born and raised in a suburb of Detroit. It used to be such a great city. I hear they are starting to rebuild and get it to a place that is great to live. What a beautiful place to have a wedding. It is beautiful on the water there. I love the brides dress and her hair. So pretty. You all look adorable. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures.

The flowers were so pretty as well as Kitty’s wedding dress and her navy shoes. I loved the lace on the neckline of the bridesmaid dresses. The top to the cake was clever. Looks like it was a beautiful spot and awesome weather.
