Back. Up. Your. Hard drive. Let me guess, I am not the first person to tell you that? Nope, didn’t think so. When my computer died last week it turned out the issue was my hard drive would not mount. What does that mean? My hard drive completely died along with everything on it. When I brought my MacBook to Apple and they delivered this news, it was certainly a blow. As they needed to order the part to fix it (and thank goodness I had extended Apple Care as the grand total of the repair was $ 1,229) I had four days to hang on to it. Four days to decide just how much all of the information on my computer was worth to me. I ended up going to a critically acclaimed data back up provider and they offered me a package totaling more than one-thousand dollars to possibly recover my data. No, thank you.
For a full week I had no computer and relied solely on my small Dell laptop from work to get me through. I am so happy to have my 15″ MacBook back and I am piecing together what information and data I did have on memory cards and an old external hard drive. Luckily I had not whipped the SD card in my DSLR so my two latest outfit posts will still be able to grace the pages of Sparkles and Shoes in the near future. The one funny thing about this re-upload of the bits and pieces I do have, there are so many photos and memories I had forgotten about. Here are some of my favorite finds:
^ The closest I will ever get to driving a Lamborghini Aventador
^ A truly decadent dessert from a dinner party
^ With my old roommate during our study abroad in Rome
^ A pretty detail of an Upper East Side building two blocks from my apartment
^ A selfie from Halloween where I dressed up as Spiderwoman
^ The gates of Buckingham palace from my last London trip
^ Senior year of college with my mom
^ A shot from an outfit post from last year
^ With two of the best Georgetown basketball players from my college years,
Jessie Sapp and Jason Clark
These pictures were a fun trip down memory lane but the moral of the story? Regularly backup your hard drive. There are inexpensive options and for your piece of mind just do it, you will never be sorry that you did. I am still looking at the different options but a terabyte Dropbox seems like the best options for me. Do you back up your data? What is your preferred method?
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Backing up my laptop is top of my to do list! We just bought two new external hard drives and my FIL sent us one to use just for Charlie 😉 Glad you got a fun trip down memory lane. I bet I have some doozies on my old hard drive!
