Sure, it has been Spring for a few weeks but I need it to warm up for good before I did a total wardrobe switch. Twice a year as the seasons change I take all of my cold weather items, think gloves, scarves, bulky sweaters and thick tights, and either pull them out or put them away to prepare for the coming months. My 200th post on Sparkles and Shoes was about how I store my boots during the summer and still remains one of my most popular posts.
This year when switching over my wardrobe I took a good long look at all of the items I was putting away and used this image I saw on my Facebook timeline a few weeks ago as a checklist for my Spring cleaning. Truth be told, I had a few pieces from college that I could still wear but my style has changed as do the type of parties I attend – I hope they will find a good home somewhere else because goodness knows I had a great memories in some of them.
I took this check list quite literally and as a result have three bags filled with dresses, pants, tops, skirts, jewelry, and shoes that will be finding a new home through the donation center at the Church. There would have been even more items, but three weeks ago I went to a friend’s Spring cleaning clothing swap where I brought 12 items and came home with ten new ones including a killer pair of booties.
Besides these seven great questions I also had the saying in the back of my head, “Even if it zips, that does not mean it fits”. I have a few items that I reserved for nights out in college and just because they zip does not mean they are appropriate for mid-twenties New York City professional. So off to charity they go!
I thought about photographing every item of clothing in the bags but that was a lot of work and I am a bit sentimental in saying goodbye to a few of the items so instead I will share with you two items that bit the dust are going to find new homes. This black dress is short and has cutouts and while it worked for college parties at age 20 but really should never be worn again, at least by me. And while these Charles Jourdan shoes are beautiful I can’t walk in them – they pinch my toes too much and there are only a few things worse than a girl who can’t walk in a pair of heels.
While we are on the topic of Spring Cleaning, I found RewardStyle’s blog post on Spring cleaning for websites fascinating. Thanks to this great article I have updated my lead profile picture on my blog, the image in the top right corner, along with updating my profile photo on all of my social media channels and adding a bio to my Pinterest page.
Happy Spring Cleaning!

Thanks for the great tips! I’ve been so lazy putting it off, but I’m in desperate need of some “spring cleaning” to make up room for new clothes!
