My love hate relationship with the gym is not something I think is ever going to end. I absolutely hate working out but I know it is something that has to happen, especially during these few holiday weeks where, it seems like, every night is a holiday party full of festive drinks and delicious nibbles. I am trying to alternate a party evening and a gym evening and there are two things really helping – my December playlist and the AMT machine.
First, for the música, I have the oddest playlist going right now but these 18 songs play for over an hour and get me through my least favorite part of the day. I have my traditional hip-hop workout jams that I prefer for cardio like the unedited version of No Mediocre by T.I featuring Iggy Azalea and I Can’t Stop Drinking About You by Bebe Rexha and then an assortment of random songs I am feeling right now including Brandon Heath’s Give Me Your Eyes and no December 2014 playlist could be complete with out T Switft’s Blank Space:
Good music only goes so far, thought, you do need to get yourself to the gym and with my lovely broken knee the treadmill is not an option and unfortunately the ellipticals are usually packed and they have a short line waiting for latest workout Barbie to finish her two hour cardio. I first found this machine sophomore year of college and while no one else seems to like them the Adaptive Motion Trainer with Open Stride is my jam. It tones all sorts of muscle groups with very low impact on my knee, win-win! When it comes to the specific machine I am not too picky, I will take the one with the blue or the yellow pedals and the one at my gym even has a TV with cable.
How do you stay in shape during the holidays?

I’m obsessively going to The Bar Method every day that I’m not commuting for work.

I’ve never tried the AMT machine, but I’m not very much into cardio anyways! I find that pilates and yoga work the best for me. Not to mention you don’t really feel like you’re working out while you’re doing it, which is always a great thing in my books!

Funny, I absolutely despise the AMT. I just hate the way it feels on my knees. I get a short cardio session on the elliptical or the stair master and then head to the weights. The gym and I will always be love/hate too.

I have tried these in the past when I was a gym member but with my short legs/arms they’re a bit harder that just a treadmill or elliptical. I never knew what they were called or that they worked so many areas! My 6 weeks babying a broken toe are up Monday and I couldn’t be more excited to get moving again!

I’ve never even heard of an AMT machine! I don’t go to a gym now but when I did I would use the elliptical and I kind of got sick of it! Now I do DVD’s at home or I go running.
