A Birthday Letter

Dear Sparkles and Shoes,

My darling, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It is hard to believe you’re two years old today; I can remember the day you were born and you have no idea how proud I am of everything you have accomplished in the last 24 months .   

You started as all new borns do, a squishy little alien-looking blob that did absolutely nothing except demand attention.  And boy, did I give it to you.  Like most new moms, I think, I was really at a loss and tried my best to give you everything you needed and then some.  Sure we stumbled along the way but now looking down that long road we traveled, I think we made it out okay. 

Let’s start with your resilience; in the past couple of months, you have dealt with traveling (as I moved to Manhattan), moving (to WordPress), and so much more.  And almost every day you bring a new surprise.  I am sure this is no shock, but brag about you to my friends, whether they really want to hear about you or not. 

You have taught me persistence and commitment.  While there is a bit of room for selfishness and “me time” you do demand an inordinate amount of attention –  622 posts in 730 days, I would say that is quite an accomplishment.  Some days are amazing, some days I am planning for disaster and a hail Mary strikes, and other days I am dead confident and we crash and burn. Oh well, we live, we learn, and we get better. I would like to thank you for the ways that you have changed my life in the past two years. I now have friends who I have only met through you – without you out there on the playground I would have never been able to connect with other moms and learned about the wonderful world of blates. 

Looking back on the notes I wrote you on your half birthday and last year when you turned one, you have grown by leaps and bounds.  I can’t even begin to tell you in words how much I love you. The message that fill my inbox went from a trickle to a steady stream and I really think you and I have found our groove.  Over the past 24 months you certainly have changed a lot, I can remember at least eight different looks.

Are you exhausting?  Yes.  Are there days when I wish you did not exist? Oh, there are some days I would love to give you back.   Realistically though?  You are my baby and I cherish you dearly.   You have added a new level of excitement to my life in New York City, encouraging me to document my days and even opening doors to a few exciting opportunities in the Big Apple. Over the past six months I have loved the interviews we have been doing am really looking forward to see how those continue to grow .  I have no idea what the next year has in store for us but I am very excited for the adventure! 

And just like your Momma, I know you like your birthday and parties.   Why, of course there will be celebrations. Tonight is your physical birthday party in New York City and all next week on the blog we will be celebrating as I am hosting a huge giveaway! What better mark this milestone is give things away to our friends?  I love you dearly, and thank you for being a huge part of my life the past two years!
