Leaving Positive Reviews

07/03/14 | New York City

People are so quick to turn around and yell, especially in New York City.  Granted, sometimes it is deserved but some people really do need to take a chill pill, as my mom says.  But what about all the times you actually receive great customer service?  I am not talking about the times when you call the cable company and they pick up quickly and give you $5 off your monthly bill.  I am talking about every time you walk into your local coffee shop and you are greeted with warm smile and a delicious cup of coffee exactly the way you like it. Even if you may not want to share your secret spot with the world, positive reviews online can do wonders and have a much bigger impact than the dollar you put in the tip jar.

Number 88  on my 101 and 1001 list is to “Write 10 Yelp Reviews” and I have decided that these ten reviews are all going to be positive.   I am crossing this off the list not because it was one of the easier ones but because there are places I visit on a weekly or monthly basis that I’ve never taken the time to stop and thank properly. The coffee shop?  The produce market? The bagel place around the corner from work? These are not glamorous or exciting locales but they are places I go all the time and I love them so why not give them a real virtual thumbs-up?

Tea at Konditori

Tea and Biscotti at Konditori

Cuba – The best ceviche spot in Manhattan hands down (seen in this post) and the last few times I have gone their Cazuela Marinera paired with a mojito – a great combination!

Dramatics NYC – I found this hair salon by chance, actually because of positive Yelp reviews, because I refuse to pay an arm and a leg for a hair cut. They advertised $24.99+ for a wash and cut and mine came out to $32 because of the length, great by me.  Plus it looked pretty fantastic.

Ess-A-Bagel – We are spoiled with bagels every Friday in the office and since the vendor was switched from Essa two months I realized just how good these heavenly New York bagels are!

Italian Village Pizza – The pizza place around the corner from my new apartment – their late night slices are just as good as their sit-down restaurant.

Konditori – The Swedish coffee shop across the street from my Brooklyn apartment was a savior on more than one occasion.  There strong coffee is just as good as their tea!

Lilysa Nail –  This place was my go-to nail salon when I lived in Brooklyn, especially with their $19.99  mani / pedi special!

Luke’s Lobster – The best Lobster Roll in New York City, and trust me, I have tried most of them. Plus Luke went to Georgetown too, and you all know how much I love Georgetown.

Manhattan Fruit – The 24 hour fruit stand on my Brooklyn block had fresh fruit and produce year round with great prices!

STAR Physical & Occupational Therapy – My physical therapy place that has helped me tremendously since surgery – even though a recurring 7:30 a.m. is the worst appointment time it was worth it because I am almost all better!

The Trader Joe’s Wine Store – My go-to place for the last three years and I do not feel like an alcoholic walking out with 12 bottles because they are such a good deal and that counts as an arm workout, right?

My Most Recent Trip to Dramatics

Last night I left a positive review for each of these ten places.  People are so quick to judge and complain about negative things that I wanted to leave positive reviews especially aas  I bet I am not the only one to judge movies by their Rotten Tomato scores and if I have never been to a place.  Try out some of my favorites and let me know what you think!

Do you usually leave positive reviews?

I just found your blog and just had to comment on this post and the message you’re sending. People are so quick to say something negative. A little bit of kindness can really go such a long way and I love that you took the time to say something nice about these places!

Such a good reminder. Yelp is full of bad reviews because when people are upset, they want to tell you about it! I go to NYC about once a year and always rely on yelp to find new gems in the city.

Love you comment about your PT clinic. I’m a PT, so its nice to hear when people appreciate PT services. I take my first patient at 7:30am and its so funny when my patients are mad at themselves for making their appointment that early 🙂 Who doesn’t want to exercise that early!?

Glad I came across your blog…(wish I could remember how I found it, ha) Enjoying it!

I often look at movie reviews, but don’t put a lot of faith into them. Adam Sandler movies always get the worst reviews, but I love every single one. Ha!

This is great I should start doing this more often. People are always quick to leave negative reviews but not so much positive when they have a good experience
