Back in the day on Facebook or MySpace you used to have to fill in the category of what type of music you like and I used to say “Everything”. That quickly was adjusted to “Everything except heavy metal” and then “everything except heavy medal and country”. Well, if that was still a required category I would just be at a loss and probably pull the Pinterest trick of ” ” (just putting a space and it counting as characters) or go back to my default of everything except heavy metal.
In May when I went to Nashville for my cousin’s wedding after the rehearsal dinner we went Honky Tonking in Downtown Nashville on the main strip, Broadway. I was pleasantly surprised that every bar we went to not only did not have a line or a cover but also they all had live music and the performers were really good!
Honestly, I hated on country music even before I really gave it a chance. A few nights in Nashville changed my mind but once I landed back in NYC I did not give it a second chance. Then a few weeks later I was at a terrific Southern BBQ restaurant, Brother Jimmy’s, on the Upper East Side enjoying one of their infamous fish bowls with friends with the song Chicken Fried came on. I think I had heard it before but I certainly did not know the words and I was in the vast minority in the bar. I quickly Shazam-ed it and found out the song. The next week at work I added the “Zac Brown Band” station to my Pandora and have found a dozen songs over the past month that I really like! My favorite right now are:
Play It Again by Luke Bryan
Chicken Fried by Zac Brown Band
Hard to Love by Lee Brice
(I tried to add this song three different times as it came up on Pandora, I liked it, and went to add it in this draft – I guess I really like it!)
Angel Eyes by Love and Theft
My Kind of Night by Luke Bryan
Cruise by Florida Georgia Line
Dirt Road Anthem by Jason Aldean
I Would Go Back by Kenny Chesney
I Don’t Want This Night to End by Luke Bryan
Farmer’s Daughter by Rodney Atkins
I like these country songs enough now that I have actually downloaded them into iTunes. I guess that officially makes me pro-country music. Besides, my cousin getting married Nashville was SO much fun! I highly recommend it even if you are not a country music fan and it makes total sense now why it is such a big Bachelorette destination!
How do you feel about Country Music?

Welcome to the other side! I LOVE country but I was brought up listening to it. I have successfully converted a few friends who were anti country now and I’m glad you’re on the same boat! My new favorite song is Sunshine and Whiskey by Frankie Ballard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MckE13kvX4&feature=kp

I was born and raised in North Carolina and Texas, so I am very, very fond of country music 🙂 And I’m also fond of Brother Jimmy’s – I went there a couple years ago to watch UNC basketball games with my sister. So much fun!

I’m literally listening to Jason Aldean right now! I used to love country, then went through a phase of hating it. Last year I jumped back on the country train 🙂 Legit, no joke, these songs you picked are some of my favorites! Seriously, Dirt Road, That’s My Kind of Night, Hard to Love, and Angel Eyes – TOP of my list!

I love country music and it gets such a bad rep. Granted there is some pretty horrible country music out there about trucks and stuff but the good stuff is really good 🙂
