When I tell people I work in advertising at least once a month someone asks me if my job is like Mad Men. I have to take a deep breathe, smile, and tell them not quite. This question irks me so much. If you have ever seen the show just think – no, just no. My company used to be located on Madison Avenue and we do come up with great ideas but the similarity stops there. No chain-smoking or drinking in the office, no mid-morning hung over appearances because of the previous nights partying, and we actually work hard!
One of my favorite parts of my job is the exact opposite of the characters in Mad Men – without giving away too much about what I do my job that requires me to wear al lot of hats. A superior actually complimented me yesterday that I do a good job juggling 25 oranges and not dropping six. Yup, that sounds about right. I realized earlier this week that I Google some of the strangest things for my job. They all make sense if I explain the context but if you were to just take a look at my search history it seems like the most scatterbrain unrelated mess of searches. Here is a glimpse:
- Images: Imagination Room
- Best City in New Jersey to Live In
- Sex and the City big closet
- Hola. ¿Cómo estás?
- Winter blue mosaic kitchen tile
- Merge facebook pages failure
- Lincoln Center address
- Salary rent calculator
- Apple macbook check warranty
- Find out whose talking about you on twitter
- Whattsapp on iPad (it doesn’t exist)
- Attractive stone and cedar shake style siding
- Definition of programmatic buying
- Photoshop cs6 layers panel disappeared (an easy fix here)
- Foursquare make a special for the mayor only
- Classic 1960’s Ads
- Black and white golf umbrellas
- Abundant closet and storage space
- Changing Email DNS records
- Web site design graphic
- Have you ever seen a grown man cry
- chiropractic healing mission trips world record
- Coca-Cola’s Klout score (it is a 92)
- cedar hardwood floors
- NYC apartments over $10,000 per month
This is the part of my job that people are jealous of. Part of my job IS Facebook, as I told Erin this week, part of my job IS blogging (not this blog though), and part of my job this week has involved every single one of these topics in one way or another. Honestly, a whole smorgishborg of random things that all come together to make every day an interesting adventure.
Do you have to Google odd things for work?

i can only imagine what the results are from the searches! i don’t get to search anything for my job or my blog either, unless it’s info on a product or something.

such a fun post! I’m only a student, but some of the things I Google for my pre-law classes (human trafficking, sex offenders) have definitely put me on some sort of watch list!

Well, whatever you do, it does sound fun!! I don’t google crazy things for work… sometimes it’s just me being interested in weird things! lol

I google bizarre things for work all the time! Some of my job involves social media and I work in politics so I am constantly performing in-depth searches to find people/places/things based on very little information. Interesting, but definitely frustrating at times!

I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one googling such strange things! I have a creative job in the beauty industry and I often search for inspiration online.
