Shopping for Chairty

12/14/13 | New Year's Resolutions

It is no secret that I like shopping but you may be surprised to learn that I like shopping for others more than myself.  I admitted this last year when I did a recap of the presents I gave my family for Christmas but I want to echo this sentiment again – I love shopping for others.
Tara, the same Tara from the cookie swap, found this event I am participating in this afternoon and put together a team to volunteer. When I got the email that said, “Let me know if you fine ladies would like to join Tara and I for this great cause next month.” I do not think I could have responded faster. Today at noon I am going with friends from high school, college, and “real life” to help a very worthy cause.

Volunteers are needed to shop and bag the clothes and household items at Kmart.  Each volunteer will receive a profile of the family they are shopping for and a maximum budget. As a volunteer you can shop for multiple families throughout the day.

Items are purchased with previously donated funds. Donations are welcome but not required.

The St. Nicholas Project is a program that provides critical social services to families in need throughout the year. St. Nicholas Project services include nutritious meals, job readiness training, housing assistance, immigration and refugee resettlement counseling as well providing gifts for families that otherwise could not afford a Christmas gift exchange.

I am so happy that this opportunity combines two things I love, shopping and charity work. The session I signed up for is only two hours but hopefully they will let me stay longer and help!  It is almost the end of the year but that does not mean I still can not still plug away at my goals. Almost a year ago I published a post on my resolutions and doing more charity was on the list:

I know I will be able to report back that this event was a success because helping others always is!

Happy Holidays!

Good for you!! I’ve been donating a lot this year, and it feels SO good. I love the definition of giving hope.

How amazing! I would definitely put my hands up for that, but I don’t think they do anything like that here, they do a Christmas tree thing with tags as decoration that you pick on or two or however many and you buy a gift for the sex and age of the person written on the back, then you wrap it up and place it back under the tree. I always manage to collect at least one but would love to do something similar to what you’ll be doing!
