A Costume Party and the Marathon

11/04/13 | costumes, New York City

Halloween this year seemed to have an extra long run – people dressed up the weekend before, the weekend after, and the night itself.  As someone who loves dressing up every year I was surprised last week about how many anti-Halloween blog posts I read – hey, give the holiday a break! I love seeing little kids dress up and being creative as an adult is fun too even if you do not get to go trick-or-treating.  The weekend before Halloween I dressed up as Snow White on the costume boat cruise and donned my second costume, Little Red Riding Hood, on Friday evening at a friend’s costume party:

I love dressing up as an adult and loved seeing the creativity of some of my friends.  I wish I had taken more pictures of strangers at the party who really went all out but I didn’t.  Instead I want to give credit to these three ladies for their original costumes even though they were not at the costume party Friday night;  my childhood friend Amanda, Rachel from Life Unsweetened, and my cousin Meredith!

Creative DIY Adult Halloween Costumes

The New York City marathon was yesterday and if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you know that I was very into the race.  I spent the evening on the Upper East Side so I could be on the side lines bright and early Sunday morning to watch all of the competitors. Samantha and I spent the beginning of the race at Mile 16 where friends of ours were volunteering.  It was amazing to see the handicap participants whizzing by and then seeing the woman and then the men who were leading the race that point.  We were amazed by how fast all of the elite runners were moving that far into the race – staggering and very impressive!

After the NYC Marathon was canceled last year because of Hurricane Sandy and in the wake of the Boston Marathon the positivity and lively spirit was infectious.  Sam and I watched until our fingers went numb and then headed to brunch.  I was amazed to find out upon returning home to Brooklyn that the street I live on was actually Mile 12.  I spent the rest of the afternoon watching the marathon out my bedroom window:
