This weekend I am going to the annual alumni gala for my university here in New York City. Looking back last year was a terrific evening and I absolutely love the long dress I wore, you can see it here in my Dressing Up for the Gala post. While a long dress was terrific and I enjoyed the excuse to get all fancy I was a bit over dressed. This Friday I am going to go for a short dress and while I have it narrowed down I am still up in the air on what to wear. This dress on the left is one of my options, especially as the weather turns colder and my hair is darker I absolutely love black and peach lace! Not to mention my first style icon Kate Middleton wore last year pre-Prince George. Well, the trend is back this year with vengeance black lace on nude which is good for me because I already have a dress like this in my closet. I find the combination elegant, sexy and timeless. And it is even better that you can wear nude and lace all year round; there are no weather or seasonal restrictions.
I have a funny feeling this black and nude dress I have is a bit too short for the gala, whoops. The other dress I am thinking of wearing is this metallic silver dress that I wore to celebrate my blogs first birthday. Thoughts? But for right now, back to black and nude lace! If I had to buy a dress for the gala these three would be my top contenders:

I think my favorite part about this trend is the combination of the my favorite color, black, and the delicacy of the lace. The delicate fabric of lace somehow can simultaneously look demure and seductive at the same time. To keep from looking like a grandma though I like it as an overlay accent for day or night!

I love it! Dress 1 is my favorite. My only issue though is you have to spend $$ for a good one. I feel like I can totally tell when someone (myself included!) buys something made with cheap lace. It just doesn’t look right. (Obviously Nicole Miller is a good pick, but you couldn’t wear a Forever 21 knockoff)
