What girl does not like diamonds? They are shiny, beautiful and the epitome of class. Most of my favorite things are items I own, but this diamonds are one thing that I admire from a distance.
The statement good friends with great connections make for amazing memories is true in almost all circumstances but especially with regards to diamonds. A family friend owns a very profitable and famous, yet somehow under-the-radar, diamond company. He buys exquisite gems, cuts the stones himself, makes them into beautiful pieces set in platinum and then sells them to Fifth Avenue boutiques that stamp their logo on the jewels and sell them for at least twice what they paid. These magnificent creations are among some of the most break taking works of art I have ever seen first hand. The jewelry is both classic and modern and really let the diamonds do the talking. That stone in the top right corner? Yes, that really is a diamond weighing it at over 18 carats in the palm of my giant hand. I was informed that it is over 300 years old and originally from a mine in India that has no Nitrogen so the diamond is D flawless and worth almost $4 million.
On my most recent visit I was treated to some of the world’s most rare pieces in the in-between stage, already purchased, cut, and cleaned up but not yet at a fashion house. One of the largest pieces, when I asked the size, my mother interrupted the diamond expert and said, “Football size”. Yes, that seems about right. Perhaps the best part about this visit was, however, when I got to try on the necklace that a famous Ukrainian-American jewelry house had just borrowed for a woman whom some call, “the most influential woman in the world”. The piece was close to 100 carats of diamonds starting with a 4 carat center stone and cascading all the way around. I felt especially pretty in the multi-million dollar stunner when the diamond man told me that he had to create a metal extender to fit around this celebrities large neck because the piece did not fit alone, yet it fit me! Shouldn’t that be a sign? I mean, my birthday is next month….
It is ironic with how much I have thought about my wedding I still do not know what type of ring I want. I have narrowed it down to platinum and a clear diamond but that is about it. The real questions are shape and settings – Round? Princess? Cushion? Solitaire? Pavé? Side stones? These are all things that will be determined in due time but until then I just know that I like sparkle and shine that comes from these magnificent rocks.
Do you agree, are diamonds are girls best friend?

I think that for an engagement/wedding band, diamonds are the way to go. For everything else? Eh, I don’t know. They are out of my price range so I can do with gold and CZ, Diamonique, or some other lab-made alternatives. 🙂 In some cases, seriously, nobody can tell. 😉

That necklace is beautiful! As for the engagement ring I personally want a cushion cut with a micropave halo and micropave band. I just love the look of it.

Yes I do think diamonds are a girls best friend. Husband picked out my engagement ring/wedding bands by himself with no help from me. It was perfect. I told him for our 20 year anniversary, this girl needs an upgrade 😉 He says 25 years, we’ll see on that one, haha.

They are SOOOO a girl’s best friend. I picked mine from Blue Nile 10 years ago and if I had it to do again, I would make a few slight changes. I have a platinum band, marquis with side stones. If I could do it again I would have opted for a princess. The Marquis gets caught on everything and scratches my kids more often than I care to admit. 🙂 You get more diamond for your money with a princess too. The more they have to cut off to make the shape the more money it costs! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my ring and the diamond is so clear and beautiful, and really it feels more me, than a princess. Just being practical though, I would like it not to scratch my kids so much!! Can’t wait to see what you decide. 🙂

Diamonds will always be a girl’s best friend. They’re timelessly classic and gorgeous. I like when they’re paired with other stones, like emeralds or sapphire. Especially sapphire. So classy.

I thought a lot about my ring and when I knew that Adam and I were finally “serious” enough, I took a good girlfriend window shopping with me and gave Adam strict instructions that he was to buy nothing unless my friend was with him! I couldn’t be happier with the result — it is kind of a combination of us. It isn’t EXACTLY what I would have chosen, but it is both my aesthetic and when I look at it, I see his decision making as well.
Wow. That was a ramble. Sorry!
