Martha’s Vineyard Family Bike Ride

06/03/13 | family, Massachusetts, vacation

Martha’s Vineyard is spectacular! The past week I was in Cape Cod, Massachusetts on vacation with my family and on the nicest day we took our bikes to the Vineyard for the day.  We took the ferry from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven, a mere 45 ride.  Once we wheeled our bikes off the ferry and consulted a map were off and rode the eight miles to Edgardtown.  By the time arrived in the town we were starving and very excited to see Sharky’s, a Mexican restaurant, which was highly recommended by the ferry boat workers.  The food was stunning and delicious and the water the large ice waters were a God send.  After lunch we biked to the Edgardtown harbor and saw gorgeous homes, quaint hotels, and even a lighthouse.  On the return journey we decided to bike along beach rode, a gorgeous thoroughfare where we stopped at Joseph Sylvia State Beach.  Once back on the road we biked until it ended at Oaks Bluff Harbor where we took the Ferry back to Cape Cod, but not before I had the chance to visit the Flying Horses, the oldest carousel in America. (And the topic of one of my favorite Dispatch songs of the same name). Here are some of the photos I took on this beautiful day over the course of our 15 mile bike ride:

The trip was an absolute treat and, as always, it was great time to spend time with my family!

You are right. The beach of gay head is way out there. You need a car of bike at least.

Those pictures really capture some of the great moments to be had on vacation! I know me and my family just love going out on the lovely beach for a day or just discovering all the hidden gems around the area when we go take a trip to Marthas Vineyard rentals each summer

The one regret I had while living on the East coast was not getting into MA .. I think it will haunt me until I get to visit. Martha’s Vineyard has always been that one spot I wanted to visit as a kid … it’s the Anne of Green Gables lover in me I think!

    The pics are beautiful!
