Let me start this off by sharing a big, BIG HAPPY 23rd BIRTHDAY to one of my favorites, Kathryn.  Kat you are 1,430 miles away but this post is my way of celebrating with you – a big discussion about one of your favorite topics, things that annoy you, and a fun montage of photos of us. But first, let me explain about the peeves…

I have always had pet peeves – in my high school yearbook it is “socks with sandals” which is still towards to the top of the list – and it college I found a great friend who had almost as many as I did.  Now that she and I do see each other everyday and only g-chat occasionally I started a running list of things that annoyed me to share with her.  One day I shared the list I had put together and she immediately started countering my pet peeves with things that really irked her.  A few minutes into our conversation I realized it would make for quite an interesting blog post because if we agreed on so many of things, surely Sparkles and Shoes readers would to.

The first part of the list are things that really get under my skin and then I invited Kathryn to be my first quasi-co-host and share some of hers with all of yours.  I can not think of a better way to help celebrate her birthday, especially as I can not be there!

My Pet Peeves

1)  When erasers fail to work and make a bigger mark than whatever you were trying to erase
2)  Poorly constructed bathroom stalls (hello two inch gaps)
3)  When the air conditioner comes on instead of the heat, and the other way around
4)  VPL
5)  Warm diet coke (my favorite drink – here and here)
6)  Excessive use of acronyms
7)  People who walk slowly and take up the whole sidewalk
8)  Cabs with lights on when they are have passengers #newyorkcityproblems
9)  Clear plastic bra/dress straps
10)  When establishments do not have any kind of fake sugar (I am a Splenda girl. but none at all?!?)
11)  Pennies
12)  Overly scented hand lotion, especially in small spaces
13)  People who are “scared of the number 13 – just to prove my point, my list ends here

My favorite North Dakotan jumped in on this and finished up the list to get to 23, her age today! (many of hers have to do with driving, something that I, as a New York City girl, do NOT do)

Kathryn’s Pet Peeves

14)  Calling espresso “expresso”
15)  Coming to a complete stop before making a right turn
16)  Facebook statuses that are countdowns or written in the third person
17)  Having single-occupancy bathrooms and still labeling them “men” and “women”
18)  Introducing yourself using your full name, middle name included, when you only go by your first name
19)  Making a bold turn onto a busy roadway and then driving 10 mph below the speed limit (it is very misleading)
20)  Putting bumper stickers on the front of your car
21)  Sending group texts on holidays
21)  Restaurants naming their menu items silly things then forcing people order their food that way

    Ugh the erasers! As a teacher this makes me want to crumble up every sheet of paper with those heinous marks and toss them in the trash!

    Happy Birthday Kathryn! Totally agree about poorly constructed bathrooms! Haha. But I can’t agree with #17, it’s actually a pet peeve of mine when single bathrooms aren’t labeled and designated. Men are gross – especially at bars! Haha. love this post idea! xo

    One of my biggest pet peeves is when people practically stand on my backside while on line. It doesn’t make the line go any faster.

    being a teacher those pencils with terrible erasers drive me crazy! some of the kids papers look like a disaster because of them!

    i have quite a few pet peeves but this helped me remember what mine are. warm diet cokes. the worst. and bathrooms that are wonky. i’m trying to pee!

    Literally, 22 out of 23 of these piss me off. Pennies aren’t a pet peeve of mine haha. But clear bra straps don’t register as a pet peeve per say, but I find them so damn annoying. But… I need them sometimes. My girls are heavy and if I just do strapless it makes everything look weird. I NEED THE STRAPS!!!

    Haha, these lists are so funny and pretty much right on point! Erasers that don’t erase.. what’s up with that!? Facebook statuses that provide way too much personal info that make me feel awkward are a huge pet peeve of mine!

    Happy Birthday to your friend, I love it when you cross paths with someone who’s virtually another version of you in a different body! I have to add one of my peeves; spelling. I’m finding, as I get older *cue clearing of throat* that spelling mistakes – especially on a computer screen, where spellcheck is only a click away, is something I can’t bloody tolerate! LOL
