Just like I thought I would never do a post devoted to cars (I did one a few weeks ago here), I also never thought I would do a post about Duck Tape, well, here it is!
There are a ton of fantastic things about living in New York City, from the jaw-dropping and historic buildings and out of this world food to unique opportunities that really only happen in the Big Apple. A few days ago I was walking through midtown Manhattan and passed a building where I interned a few summers ago. As I was passing by I stared up admiringly remembering my great experience there, when I noticed a crowd at the store next door. When I worked in that building the store was a Papyrus, which, while a great location for greeting cards, does not usually draw a large crowd. So of course, I made a detour and went to check it out.
I was immediately stopped in my tracks when I saw the windows with mannequins wearing dresses constructed from duct tape by “Project Runway” contestants. I apologize for the glare and poor quality of the photos but, as you have read, this was not a planned stop. I immediately grabbed my mini camera out of my bag and started snapping:
I checked the prices – mini rolls started at $2.99 and full size rolls were $9.99. Just the sheer color and pattern of the tape made them great but the rolls were even more awesome because a portion of proceeds will be donated to Autism Speaks’ “Light it Up Blue” initiative. Since I bought a roll of neon pink tape (no idea what I will use it for, but hey, it was too cool not to buy), does that count towards my New Year’s Resolution of giving to charity?
The only negative thing I have to say is that I did not make it to the DMV before it closed, whoops!

This is so great and totally reminds me of my childhood. My brother and I used to play with duck tape for hours.

How this is so cool and exciting. I just showed this post to my husband because when we were at school he made a huge ball out of duct tap, we still have it and he is very proud. What do you think about following each other’s blogs?

Those dresses are amazing! I made my halloween costume last year by taking a dress and sticking duct tape on it to look like the tardis (so nerdy). There’s actually so much you can do with duct tape.

I’ve seen people actually making things like purses, but those dresses are so cool. Not my style but I get why people rock it!

They had a booth at Blissdom, and I was amazed! They had a dress and suit (that were worn at a prom) on display. Amazing. I, however, am not anywhere near that creative!

Wow these are amazing! In highschool I researched this, just because the fad was making duct tape dress for prom…but these dresses are leaps and bounds better! I think i’d actually wear the blue one.
