Black & Teal Peeptoes

12/28/12 | Christian Louboutin, shoes

It is hard these days to open a magazine and not see a celebrity wearing a pair of sky high Christian Louboutin heels – those shiny, red-lacquered soles are just a beacon of light, a color which I recently learned is registered as Pantone 18-663 TPX.   And these shoes are not just in the press, I love this photo of Kristin Davis and Sarah Jessica Parker shooting the second  Sex and the City movie in New York City with their red Louboutin soles on the streets of my city:

I love this look of the red Louboutin sole but these French beauties are definitely not in my budget.  You all know I really like shoes, it is in the name of my blog and I feature a different pair in my collection every Friday (like here, here, and here) and so it is only fitting that my first true DIY project from the Internet involved shoes – I have painted the soles of one of my favorite pairs of peep toes.  However, I took the advice of many crafters before me to not try and make them look even remotely like Louboutin’s by choosing a color on the opposite side of the color wheel – a baby blue teal.

The first photo is from Fashion Lush’s fabulous tutorial on how to do this and the second is my shoes after I painted them.  Not quite as graceful but still very fun!

What do you think of my little project?  Do you like the look of a colored sole?

You’re shoes look so cute! I’ve been wanting to do that for a pair I have for months but I am too chicken! They look great though!!

And trust me, I know what you mean, I love Louboutins but I could never drop that much on shoes!

Great idea! Love that you branched out with different colors. Christian Louboutins may not be in anyone’s budget, but I’ve splurged on a few pairs found on eBay and have worn them enough times to get my money’s worth. You won’t regret it if you purchase them;D

I love the look of the painted soles!! I just wonder how they hold up…I’m thinking that I wouldn’t do the main sole where the ball of the foot is. Great job, though!

Part of the CL’s appeal is definitely the infamous colored soles and I love that you took a more budget friendly alternative with the opposite color! A teal sole is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, what a great idea! 🙂
