Peer Pressured by Orange is the New Black

07/01/14 | Netflix, television

I just finished Season 2 of Orange is the New Black and I am still shaking my head.  Sure, there were entertaining moments, moments that made me cringe, and times I just wanted to hit fast forward but now 26 episodes later I am done.  The ending was absolutely crazy – I won’t spoil it – but really what the heck?  And I still don’t know how I feel about it, the finale or the Orange is the New Black in general.  I know the Netflix hit-show has struck a cord with many people, I am just not one of them.

I was not a big fan three episodes in but I was told by friends and coworkers to give it another try.  I did. I got to the end of season one just as season two came out and decided to keep watching. I could ramble on for ages about how I am overall just confused, but I will stop.  It is safe to say I can think of two dozen shows I would enjoy watching more.  I will have to admit though, the hair and makeup people do a great job in transforming the characters. Some women look completely different and others, look exactly the same:

And the biggest difference of all?

In order, as seen above;  Nicky Nichols (Natasha Lyonne), Sophia Burset (LaVerne Cox),   Galina ‘Red’ Reznikov (Kate Mulgrew), Tasha ‘Taystee’ Jefferson (Danielle Brooks),  Tiffany ‘Pennsatucky’ Doggett (Taryn Manning),  Dayanara Diaz (Dascha Polanco),  Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), Lorna Morello (Yael Stone), Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley), and Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren (Uzo Aduba). While this is not the entire cast of Orange is the New Black all of the main female leads are shown above.

Only a few days after the release of Season 2 it was announced that Orange is the New Black has been renewed for a third season – probably because it generated more viewers and hours viewed in its first week than other Netflix original series including House of Cards.  After watching the first two seasons I am neutral about the third.  Will I watch it?  Honestly if it comes out next summer during the lull between the end of regular programmed television and the launch of summer shows, maybe.  But in now way will I be waiting on the edge of my seat to binge watch it in two days.

And then I do not know where I have been – but there is a REAL Piper Chapman.

Am I the only person who did not love the show?

I can’t believe how beautiful all the women are outside of the prison… 🙂 I have a love/hate relationship with OITNB. I don’t know what my deal is, but I can’t stay away from it even when it annoys me half to death.

The book though, I straight hated it. The show is far more entertaining and interesting than any part of the book and I couldn’t even figure out why it bored me so.

We totally love it! Seeing the back stories this season was so fun but that’s why there are so many shows. Something for everyone 🙂

I’m with you, I dislike the first two seasons and only watched because my husband said to give it a chance. The only thing I liked about the second season was the last three minutes. I’m in the same place as you, if I have nothing else to watch I may watch season 3 next year but it won’t be at the top of my list.

I have a really mixed view of the show–it’s definitely not my favorite but somehow I just can’t stop watching it haha.

I like it. I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with it and it’s not my favorite, but I like it!

i actually love the series. I think it’s interesting to see the different back stories and then also the relationships that develop in prison where it’s like a new family. i personally love it, but i don’t think everyone has to!

I also love the show, my husband and I only have to watch the last episode of season 2 to finish. I can see how anyone else may not love it though, I can honestly say I’m addicted and have no idea why 🙂

Awh I hate to hear that you didn’t love it 🙁 But you aren’t the only one. I have a couple friends who just aren’t a fan of it. Me, on the other hand, I’m one of the addicts lol. I totally agree with you on the makeup team. They have done a fine job 😉

I love the show!!! It took me a few episodes to get into it during the first season, after that I was hooked. It seems like most people either love it or just don’t love it ha!

My husband is insisting we watch it together (he binge watched the whole thing and is now dragging me along). I’m eh about it too, but I’m only 4 episodes in. I’ll probably keep watching for his sake, but there are other things I’d rather watch…

I honestly don’t know how I feel about the show. I watch it and I obsess over talking about it, but I really can’t get myself to admit that I like it. I love how the show itself is done and I think the actresses are fabulous, but I don’t care for the whole storyline itself.

I love Orange is the New Black. But the finale was so meh and anticlimactic.
