Welcome to another post from my trip to Indonesia last month! I fit so much in during my two weeks there that it has been hard to edit the thousands of photos but since I got through a big selection this weekend get excited to see what is in store! After visiting the Gili Islands (here) I headed to mainland Bali and the heart of the island where I stayed for a few days along the rice patties and explored the best of what Ubud has to offer including the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary.
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Ubud is unlike other monkey places around because this is actually a sanctuary built in the natural habitat of Balinese long tailed Monkey where they are cared for (aka fed) but tourists can not touch or pose for pictures with them. That said, they are hungry little creatures and at even the slightest inkling of food, they will be all over you (see photos below of them trying to climb up my dress)!
While a few people recommend the entire morning at the Sanctuary I found 45 minutes was enough especially as we arrived early, about 8:30am to catch the feeding time and were able to explore the grounds with only a handful of other people around.
After feeding we left the main area exploring the paths through the rain forest and as I was being taken by an expert local guide we got down to the river and into the monkeys habitat before any other visitors which led to some great photos and even better monkey encounters. For a good portion of it I actually put my camera and phone away to truly experience it but here are a few shots I did manage to get:

When I first clicked on the website I was wondering if you could pet them. They look so soft. But then when I read it it said you couldn’t feed them or touch them.
Their little faces are just darling. So full of expression. I would have loved to have been there with you.

I can’t believe they let you just walk around with that many monkeys. They must be very docile.

Wow. This is so cute. Visiting a monkey forest is so much fun. Feeding time is awesome. My boyfriend would love this. He feeds our daughter cat salmon every morning and she goes nuts for it. He sits down with her and feeds her finger to mouth. Looks like that you got a new little boyfriend there. Love the photo of the monkey checking you out.

Monkeys kind of scare me so this would be sort of a scary experience for me! But it definitely does seem like an interesting experience
