Yes — Great Wolf Lodge Poconos is a great destination for families with toddlers. The indoor waterpark includes toddler splash areas like Cub Paw Pool, family‑friendly suites, included activities, and dining all in one location. For families with children ages 1–3, it works especially well as a short, easy resort getaway. Great Wolf Lodge has splash zones and gentle activities for little toddlers, plus high-speed plunges and chill zones for teenagers and adult thrill-seekers.
You may have seen on Instagram that we recently spent two days at Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos, and I went in with one big question: Is this actually fun for toddlers?
The week we went, Lily was 2.5 and Henry had just turned one — 34 months and 13 months to be exact. That means we were firmly in the stage where they were at that magical toddler stage where everything feels new and exciting.
If you’re considering Great Wolf Lodge Poconos with toddlers, here’s what our stay was really like traveling with a 13-month-old and a 34-month-old.
And honestly? It turned out to be a really fun little family getaway.
Quick Summary: Great Wolf Lodge Poconos With Toddlers
- Best for: Ages 1–10
- Length of stay: 1–2 nights
- Top toddler attraction: Cub Paw Pool
- Best feature for parents: Everything in one resort
- Value factor: Water park included with stay
- Overall verdict: Great short family getaway

Here’s everything I learned — including what worked well with toddlers, what surprised me, and what I wish I knew before we arrived.
What the Kids Loved Most About Great Wolf Lodge
Even with two very little kids, there was plenty to do in the waterpark.
Henry (13 months) spent most of his time exploring the Cub Paw Pool, which is designed specifically for babies and toddlers. While it’s called a pool, it’s really closer to a splash pad, with shallow water and lots of little features to crawl around and explore, making it easy to supervise.

Lily (34 months) was a little more adventurous. She split her time between:
- The smaller waterslides
- The wave pool
- Exploring different areas of the waterpark
One of the sweetest things to watch was how often she stopped to check on her baby brother to make sure he was having as much fun as she was.
The wave pool reminded me a bit of the ones at Six Flags I went to growing up. The waves cycle on and off throughout the day, and there’s a noticeable shift before they start.
Another Fun Touch and Surprise at Great Wolf Lodge
There’s a big alarm before the iconic tipping bucket dumps, so everyone knows when the giant splash is coming.
In addition to my DSLR and iPhone I also bought my GoPro so I could take watery snaps and videos without fear. You can tell a bit of a resolution difference in the images below but they truly capture the joy.

Waterpark Fun with Toddlers
If you are visiting the water park with toddlers or younger kids who are still learning to swim, you will likely spend time right alongside them enjoying the experience together. While parenting at this stage is active, the resort’s design makes it feel more like shared play than a chore. Because of the strong, visible lifeguard presence and thoughtfully organized layout, I felt less like a ‘lifeguard’ myself and more like a participant, splashing and discovering the water park right alongside my kids.
What stood out to me was how thoughtfully the water park is designed for families with younger children. The attractions are well organized by thrill level, there are plenty of shallow play areas, and there is a strong, visible lifeguard presence throughout the park. Knowing that trained lifeguards are actively monitoring each attraction helps parents feel supported while still staying engaged with their kids.
After a full day of slides, splashing, and swimming, everyone heads back to the room happily exhausted and ready for a great night of sleep — parents included.
Water Safety at Great Wolf Lodge
Water safety is clearly a top priority at Great Wolf Lodge, with multiple layers of protection built into the experience. Highly trained lifeguards are stationed throughout the water park to continuously monitor attractions and respond quickly if needed, creating a strong culture of safety.
Clear height and safety requirements are posted at each attraction, and complimentary U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jackets are available for guests. Children under 48 inches or those still building swimming confidence are encouraged to wear them.
Great Wolf Lodge also uses advanced monitoring systems and operational technology to help maintain a safe environment throughout the water park, which adds another layer of reassurance for families.
As with any water environment, parents are encouraged to supervise younger children, but the strong lifeguard presence, safety procedures, and thoughtful park design help create a setting where families can feel comfortable and focus on having fun together.
Does Great Wolf Lodge tire out the kids and parents?
Spending the day in the water together is one of the best parts of a Great Wolf Lodge trip. The resort creates an atmosphere where you aren’t just a spectator. You’re joining the fun at a vacation pace, racing down slides or floating the lazy river, knowing the environment is designed specifically to support families with little ones. After a full day of activity, everyone is happily worn out and ready for a great night of sleep. The family-friendly suites also make evenings easy. The rooms are so spacious that little ones can drift off quickly in their own sleeping area while parents still have a comfortable space to unwind, catch a little TV, or relax with a good book before calling it a night.
Best Time to Visit the Waterpark at Great Wolf Lodge
One thing I appreciated was how the waterpark schedule naturally works well for families. With a 10 AM opening, it gives everyone time to enjoy a relaxed morning, whether that means breakfast together, getting organized for the day, or simply not having to rush little ones out the door. The 10 AM opening is a game-changer for parents; it replaces the typical ‘theme park rush’ with a relaxed morning rhythm, allowing the focus to remain on ease and convenience throughout the stay.
Our kids were up early, but we were able to take our time, enjoy breakfast, and still head back to the room to get ready before the waterpark opened. It made the start of the day feel easy and stress-free.
Families with toddlers will appreciate the flexibility to plan around their own routines. Timing waterpark visits around naps or energy levels can help everyone get the most enjoyment out of the experience.
If you’re traveling with older children, the extended evening hours (open until 8 PM) offer great flexibility. We also noticed that later in the day can feel a bit more relaxed, giving families another great window to enjoy the attractions.
Kids Programming (Including the Yoga Class)
Great Wolf Lodge offers a full schedule of complimentary kids programming throughout the day, and we were impressed by how many activities were available during our two-day stay.
We tried the Yoga Tails kids yoga class at 9 AM, which was a really sweet way to start the morning before the waterpark opened. It was a fun, low-key activity that helped the kids get their energy out before a full day of swimming.
During our stay we also enjoyed story time and arts and crafts, which were easy, engaging activities to naturally weave into the day between waterpark time and meals. The programming felt well organized and thoughtfully designed for younger guests, with a nice balance of active and creative experiences.
One thing I especially appreciated was how these activities are designed to be flexible and family-friendly. Kids can participate at their own pace, and there are plenty of opportunities throughout the day to join activities that match your child’s interests and energy level. It was also nice having structured activities that kept the kids engaged while giving parents a chance to relax and enjoy the resort atmosphere.
Epic Story Time looked especially fun, with a few kids selected to participate alongside Wiley and the Great Wolf Pack, which adds an interactive element older kids would especially love.
We didn’t make it to the Great Wolf Pack character meet-and-greet this visit, but I can easily see that being a highlight for slightly older children. Lily also would have loved the SplashFest dance party, and I can already tell it will be something we look forward to on a future visit as she gets a little older.
There are so many included activities for kids of all ages that it feels like there is always something new to try, which is one of the reasons I can see our family returning as the kids grow.

Dining at Great Wolf Lodge
Dining at Great Wolf Lodge was easy and convenient, especially with young kids. We had the dining package with breakfast and dinner included, which meant four meals at Timbers Table & Kitchen during our stay. Having meals built into our stay made it simple to just show up, enjoy our time together, and focus on the fun.
Everything felt very family-friendly and well organized. We were able to head to meals when it worked for our schedule, and the experience felt smooth and efficient throughout our stay.
For a resort filled with families, the dining experience ran very efficiently. The buffet was easy to navigate, well stocked, and constantly refreshed, so there were always plenty of options available. It felt relaxed and convenient, just an easy way to refuel between activities.
If we return, I would also love to try some of the other dining options on property, especially for a relaxed sit-down meal while the kids enjoy their favorites. But for this trip, the buffet was exactly what our family needed – easy, convenient, and full of choices everyone enjoyed.
Lily’s favorite parts of dining were a tie between the “big girl” sippy cups with bendy straws, getting to sit in a booster seat (a great transition between a highchair and a regular chair), and of course, getting to go back for her favorite foods.
I was especially impressed by the quality and variety of the buffet. There was everything from simple, kid-friendly options like oatmeal and familiar favorites like chicken fingers and pizza, to fresh salads and more elevated entrées. My personal favorites were the made-to-order omelets, the Brussels sprouts with bacon, and the glazed salmon.

Our Room: Mountain Tower Accommodations
During our stay, we were located in the Mountain Tower, one of the newer accommodation areas at Great Wolf Lodge Poconos. Our room felt fresh, modern, and very comfortable for our family, with thoughtful design features that worked especially well for traveling with young kids.
We appreciated details like the easy-to-clean flooring, updated finishes, and the overall spacious feel of the room. After long days at the waterpark, it was a comfortable place to relax and recharge.
Great Wolf Lodge offers a variety of room locations and styles across the resort, giving families flexibility depending on their preferences. One thing we liked about Mountain Tower was that it felt like a quieter retreat at the end of an activity-filled day.
The resort itself is designed like a true family destination, with everything located within the same property. Bringing a stroller was helpful for our youngest when she needed a break after a full day of excitement, and it made transitions between activities feel even easier. By the end of the first day, Lily happily climbed into the stroller after dinner, completely worn out from all the fun — a sure sign of a great day at Great Wolf Lodge.
Swimwear Tip for Babies
If you’re visiting the waterpark with a crawling baby, one thing we found helpful was having swimwear that offered a little extra coverage. Henry loved exploring the toddler-friendly splash areas, and having a full-coverage rash guard helped keep him comfortable while he moved around and played.
For babies who are:
• Crawling or scooting
• Still building confidence walking
A full-coverage rash guard or swimsuit with extra protection, which I also recommended in my Turks & Caicos post, can be a great option for added comfort during active water play.
With so many areas designed specifically for younger guests, having comfortable swimwear helps little ones enjoy every moment of the experience.

Northern Lights Arcade
On our second afternoon, while Henry was napping, Lily and I went on a little mother–daughter adventure.
We had already walked past the Northern Lights Arcade a few times during our stay and never really thought we’d end up going in. As it turns out, we visited three times in 48 hours.
Introducing Lily to Skee-Ball brought back some real childhood memories for me. There’s something about rolling those balls up the ramp that never gets old.
After our final visit we only had a small number of tickets, but it was still enough for Lily to pick out a little prize to bring home, which of course made the whole experience feel like a win.
It ended up being a really fun break from the waterpark, especially during nap time or when you want a quick indoor activity.

A Surprise Favorite: The Kids Hot Tub
Somehow we didn’t discover the kids’ hot tub until our last morning.
I had seen the adult hot tub with the age restriction, but didn’t realize there was a separate kid-friendly one.
It ended up being a huge hit.
Henry could not stop smiling, and the built-in bench (meant for adults to sit on) was the perfect height for him to stand and splash.

The Magic Wands (Better for Older Kids)
Great Wolf Lodge is famous for its magic wand game, MagiQuest, that kids can play throughout the resort.
The wands are adorable, but 1–2 year olds are a little too young to fully participate.
However, we did walk through the zig-zag maze in the main atrium of Great Wolf Lodge Poconos, where you can see all the different themed sections from the fantasy-forest realm of Vellara to the magic of the Evergreen.
Both Lily and Henry loved watching older kids “bop” the magic sensors with their wands to see what happened.
I can definitely see Lily loving this in a few years.

Visiting Great Wolf Lodge Poconos With Toddlers
If you’re planning a trip to Great Wolf Lodge Poconos with toddlers, Great Wolf Lodge is designed so even families with very young children can enjoy the experience comfortably.
Unlike traveling with older kids, toddlers need:
- shallow toddler-friendly water areas designed for young guests
- easy access to family-friendly dining and snack options
- a stroller for little ones who may want a break after a full day of fun
That said, the resort is surprisingly well designed for little kids.
Between the Cub Paw toddler pool, shallow splash zones, and family-friendly activities like yoga and story time, there’s plenty for younger children to enjoy.
For our family, visiting Great Wolf Lodge Poconos with a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old worked really well for a two-day stay.

What to Pack for Great Wolf Lodge With Toddlers
If you’re planning a trip to Great Wolf Lodge Poconos with toddlers, packing a few helpful items can make your stay even more comfortable.
Because the waterpark is the main attraction, most of your time will be spent in swimwear and sandals, but there are a few items that make a big difference with little kids.
- Stroller because depending on your room, the resort is much bigger than it looks online and playing all day tires kids out.
- Full-body swimsuits and at least two per day.
- Extra swim diapers as you’ll likely be in and out of the waterpark multiple times.
- Comfortable sandals or water shoes since you’ll be walking on wet tile floors most of the day. The kids wore Crocs and Mark & I wore flip flops.
- Snacks for your room as toddlers sometimes get hungry between meals or late at night.
Is Great Wolf Lodge Worth It?
For families with toddlers, Great Wolf Lodge Poconos can absolutely be worth it for a short stay.
The biggest advantages for little kids are:
- The indoor waterpark is included with your stay
- There are dedicated toddler splash areas
- Many family activities happen throughout the day
And if you’re traveling with very little kids like we were, kids under 3 eat and stay free, which helps make the trip more affordable.
For our family, two days felt like the perfect amount of time.
Final Thoughts
So, is Great Wolf Lodge fun for little kids?
Absolutely, just in ways that are perfectly suited for their age and stage. For toddlers, it’s all about exploring splash zones, trying small slides, and enjoying lots of interactive water play designed just for them.
What makes it especially special is seeing how much there is for even the youngest guests to enjoy, from gentle attractions to engaging activities throughout the resort. Watching their excitement when the waves start or the giant tipping bucket splashes is what makes the experience so memorable for families.
If you’re traveling to Great Wolf Lodge Poconos with toddlers around ages 1–3, it can be a wonderful first resort-style family getaway, one where both kids and parents can enjoy the experience together and create lasting memories.
