You may recall my post from a few weeks about where I shared all about our visit to the Pyramids of Giza – seeing all three giant structures up close and personal, including standing on them and going inside one. If you missed it, I highly suggest going back and checking it out. But while staying in Cairo we also took in the pyramids from a different vantage point – from a half mile away at night in the city of Gaza at the Pyramids of Giza Sound and Light Show. And as you know, I try and keep things very honest here on Sparkles and Shoes and while the light show is rated #1 on TripAdvisor in the Giza Concerts & Shows category that is not saying much as it is #1 of 1. And to be honest, I would say it is not worth the money and would not recommend going but since it was part of our pre-packed itinerary we went with it.
You can not get anywhere near the pyramids at night and this makes sense as it is dark and in the desert, however, for years there has been a light show when the night falls, which lights up both the pyramids and the sphinx in time with a narration. However, the vast majority of the story was basic facts about Egypt (not new information) and the show has not been updated in many years – with today’s lighting technology this could be fascinating but this was lack lustre in almost every way. The staff made a big deal of the “VIP” tickets but this was extra money to sit in the first four rose of folding chars, as opposed to the next 20, but it did not matter as you are looking up and at the pyramids which are very far away. For a very popular attraction this has potential but at this point if you really feel like you need to see it, skip the audio and you can watch it from the Pizza Hut across the street.
During the hour long show I stood off to the side with my trusty tripod and tried to get a few good shots. Oh, and as it was early January even with it being Egypt it was quite chilly, especially with the wind, so if you go during any of the winter months I would suggest layering up! It was difficult but here are some of the ones I was able to capture:
Would you want to go to the Pyramids of Giza Sound and Light Show?

This is so crazy! I had no idea they did anything like this, what a unique experience! I actually went back and read your old post too, which looked like an incredible trip by the way, but I feel like the lights add a whole new modern feel to such an ancient wonder!
Thanks so much for sharing!
