A few years ago my grandmother, Meme, emailed and asked if I was ever going to do fashion posts for over 50 or 60. I told her I did not have anything planned but Meme, this one is for you! My latest style icon is Iris Apfel who is still crushing it at 98 years old with her bold colors, fun prints, and statement accessories including her trademark glasses.
And just because I feel like it needs to be said one more time – yes, she is 98 years old – a born and bread New Yorker since 1921. Her style is quite different than many of the other Style Icons I have featured on Sparkles and Shoes over the years but I love that she takes clothes and truly makes them here own. Perhaps it is her academic background in art history or time at Women’s Wear Daily but she has truly crafted an artistic look that is truly her own. In finding these great images I found a bunch of great Iris Apfel quotes so as you scroll through photos of her amazing style you can get inspired to hopefully ad a bit more color to tomorrow’s look!
